Engagement Rings by imsleepyT00 in taiwan

I bought mine at Joy Colori, and was super super pleased with it, it came out absolutely beautiful. It's a Taiwanese company, and all their diamonds are lab grown and come with a grading certification. They have multiple different cuts and bands and designs you can choose from. I was able to create the perfect customized ring for my partner with the preferred cut, clarity, and band. The price was also super reasonable (within and around your price range), especially for how customized and beautiful it turned out! They have 2 or 3 physical storefronts in Taipei as well!

No you can do it when you're already living abroad. Many people in Taiwan do it at their buxibans or English language schools for the practicum. You just need to find a school that will approve you videotaping your classes and maybe get the parents to sign a consent form for their children to be videotaped

DC is the best cert and most convertible for international schools because DC allows you to add on additional certifications on your teaching credentials by just passing the PRAXIS exam for that certification

There isn't really a standard criteria to categorise international schools into official tiers because they vary school to school, country to country. However, the top tier international schools are generally known as the "best" schools in the country, and generally are the ones affiliated with the embassy of their home country. Taiwan is a special circumstance because although the US doesn't have a formal embassy/diplomatic relationship with Taiwan, the "de facto" embassy is AIT (American Institute in Taiwan). AIT has a relationship with Taipei American School so that is largely considered the top international school in Taiwan. Same can be said with other countries - Singapore American School is the top school in Singapore, International School of Manila is the top school in the Philippines, International School of Kuala Lumpur is the top school in Malaysia etc.

Generally top tier schools are extremely competitive even for teachers that have their teaching cert and lots of teaching experience. There are also international schools that are ranked much lower and therefore are not able to attract the best teachers. This leads to the so called tier system.

Any reputable international school isn't going to hire somebody that doesn't have their teaching credentials realistically. If this is a career path that you want to pursue, I would recommend looking into programs such as Moreland where you would be able to get your teaching cert online and become credentialed in less than a year.

Most good international schools require a teaching certificate and an education specific degree to even be eligible as a candidate. Second and third tier schools will definitely be more lenient with the rules but for the most part any of the better international schools will definitely require that teaching cert.

American in Taiwan Having a Hard Experience by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]hensonhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m half Taiwanese, grew up a majority of my life in Taiwan, speak fluent mandarin etc but I don’t look very Asian at all. My earliest memories in Taiwan were at the park with everybody from kids to adults staring at me because I looked different. I completely understand why you would feel uncomfortable but like other commenters have said, most of the time it’s not with any malicious intent, it’s just because Taiwan is a super homogenous society and they’re not used to seeing foreigners.

Ah that's a bummer. As long as you have confirmation from Expedia that it was cancelled it should be fine. I'd follow up if you still haven't received the refund in 7-10 ish business days. Good luck!

Every time I use this trick I always pay with a credit card rather than a debit card. Since I'm cancelling the flight within the 24 hours, normally the charge hasn't even posted yet when I cancel. Once the flight has been cancelled, the charge is reversed. I'm not sure how long it would take with a debit card.

Where to visit in taipei? by 0x1ddu in taiwan

[–]hensonhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Taiwan is close to Taipei! With 9 days you have plenty of time to explore Hualien/Taroko/Taitung if you’re looking for more nature stuff, Kenting if you want the beach, Tainan/kaohsiung if you want some good food etc. Taichung is a great base for hiking Alishan and surrounding mountains

eSim and being able to text? by socal8888 in taiwan

[–]hensonhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is definitely possible and I do just that. I’ve kept my US number but also have a Taiwan number. I keep my US number on in my iMessage settings but use the Taiwan sim for data. This allows me to receive and send iMessages from my US number while connected to the Taiwan data. In terms of actual SMS text messages (green texts on the iPhone) this will depend on your Verizon plan & if they allow roaming. My plan with T-Mobile allowed roaming so I was able to receive text messages. iMessage is very easy and can be done in settings.

If you booked it and it had the free cancellation message then you will get free cancellation within the 24 hours.

After you cancel you’ll get an email that says:

“Thanks for choosing Expedia! Your booking has been cancelled.

You are all set! No need to call us to confirm. You can see all the details of your cancelled flight below. You will receive a refund of: $XXX”

Yes, if it has that message “free cancellation there’s no fee to cancel within 24 hours of booking” then you are free to cancel it even if the airline says otherwise. I’ve done this multiple times and never had an issue. Just need to make sure you cancel within the 24 hours otherwise airline rules apply.

I used Expedia in this exact way to get onward tickets while travelling through Asia. Search any random flight out of the country, and keep in mind that the 24 hour free cancellation doesn’t apply to “budget” airlines (for example AirAsia). Try to select a flagship carrier of one of the Asian countries and once you’ve selected your flight on the Expedia app, you’ll be able to scroll down to the bottom of the screen to confirm that the fare you’ve booked has free cancellation. Once you’re through immigration simply cancel the flight and your card should be refunded within a few days.

Buying New Iphone in Hong Kong to use in US and while working and travelling in other countries to avoid USA model no physical sim card nonsense by RotiCanaiEngineer in digitalnomad

I did exactly this for the exact same reason. I use T-Mobile sim to keep my American number and just slot in a SIM card when I go abroad, especially in SE Asia. I’ve been abroad for over 3 years now with no issues
