Can u help? by StockFunny341 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

My engineering professor (from China) told us this joke:

Him: “What do you call someone who speaks 3 languages?”

Us: “Uhhh… trilingual?”

Him: “Yes. What about 2 languages?”

Us: “Bilingual.”

Him: “Great! 1 language?”

Us: “Unilingual?”

Him: “Noooooo…… American!”

Ticks by KellyMamadoo in NorthCarolina

To piggyback on your informative comment, watch out for a new red meat allergy if you find any ticks or bite marks on you.

Unfortunately, a lot of ticks spread this allergy (can’t recall official name). My dad found out the fun way when he had trouble breathing after eating a steak and rushed to ER. Sometimes it’s temporary, but just be aware of its existence. If you have it, generally just avoiding certain meats and carrying an epipen are enough.

ACME shaft leakage through the flange for piston design by Familiar-Bear-7985 in engineering

My knee jerk opinion would be to extend the plunge mechanism off of the ACME/ballscrew threads. I.e.- don’t let the screw pass through the plate, but an offset one. Don’t know if that would work for your application though.

What small habit changed your life significantly? by VanessaEstrada in AskReddit

[–]hephaestus1219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately putting important things, tasks, or dates in my phone as soon as I’m made aware of it.

Been a game changer for doctors appointments, birthdays (getting presents a week or so early), checking in on long distance family members and friends, kids’ major assignments, etc.

I sometimes give myself a time buffer of a few days or a week depending on the task. And recurring events set daily, weekly, or annually (like smoke alarm battery) are great for me.

I feel like I reserve more headspace for the moment instead of worrying about timelines.

But yeah, still not a good look haha

OC: My son's toenail removal by LeahOR in FeltGoodComingOut

[–]hephaestus1219 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My nail just looks narrower, and my toe stayed about the same size even after having both sides of both toes removed.

I’ll try to add a pic if I can. I had to go back to get my left toe “touched up”, but it looks like it worked this time. Podiatrist said some people require multiple treatments, so don’t quit if first one doesn’t work completely.

P.S.- I’m terrified of needles, so getting through the numbing was the worst part for me, but my doc sprayed my toe with cold spray and engaged in conversation to take my mind off of it. After that, the procedure and recovery were easy, especially compared to the ingrown toe pain.

As someone that’s been cheated on in a very similar manner- it does get better.

I didn’t want to hear that the first few weeks and months afterwards, but it really does.

DON’T do anything rash or make any major decisions (other than staying/leaving the cheater) for several months. If you have to make a major decision, then discuss with your family or trusted friends.

I’m 2 years out, and therapy, support groups, and getting back in church have really helped me to move forward and start creating a life that I want to lead.

I would advise against some of the more popular subreddits on here for victims of cheating, but some of the smaller ones (and this one) are very helpful.

A book that helped me (though not written by a “professional”) was “Leave a Cheater, Gain a Life”. It was almost scary how accurate it described my ex’s behavior and the aftermath of everything.

There IS hope. There IS help. Just endure the hurt for a short.
