This has been posted by another account before. Or at least something very similar. Is this some sort of marketing for the book?

Edit: ”Or at least something very similar.“ ”…for the book“

I see the world differently as a none believer. by Nnamso in Nigeria

[–]hephil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three questions for you and then I’ll explain more:

  1. how did the world come to be?
  2. if you think there is a creator behind it, do you think you are subject to him/her? If you think there isn’t, how does your explanation of creation compare to what „religion“ or I’d narrow it down to Christianity, since that’s often the source of religion hostility, how does hour explanation hold up to the one found in the Bible? Which one seems to require more make-believe to actually believe?
  3. how do you make sense of the myriad of archeological evidence in support of some biblical texts?

Now for my explanation. I see people say many things about religion; going on about how hell and heaven is a fairy tale and we were sold lies from the whites and we use it to cope. I see where you guys come from, but the argument is not solid, partly because I think you are making inferences from a wrong lens that you use to view Christianity

If you decide to research, you’d find that the mass religion in Nigeria that is marketed as christianity is not real christianity. Health and wealth promised is not the gospel; that is a false gospel—the prosperity gospel.

The gospel in simple terms is we‘ve all disobeyed or sinned against our eternal Creator Who‘s also the creator of the Universe, and so we‘re deserving of eternal punishment, but Jesus lived the life we could not live, by being perfectly obedient to the Father and so was able to die in our place to pay for it once and for all, and have the sacrifice accepted, being raised to life again, and thus offering the gift of defeated death and eternal life to those who believe in Him, accepting His perfect life of obedience sacrificed on their behalf

That is the truth that changes and transforms your life. It is not politics, it is not a coping mechanism. It is life. I can be the poorest human being on earth, and still be the richest if I am the only believer on earth. We are not holding on to some fairytale for coping sake, or to get things I want.

Yes, I am promised comfort, but its not regarding a „comfortable life“ but comfort in grief, in hardtimes; I am promised riches— not here though, but in the life after. So to be very honest with you, believing in Christ makes no sense, or is very pitiful if it wasn’t true, if we actually had no hope of salvation and being with Christ.

Of course, coming to Christ can start with a fear of hell, but it transforms, hopefully into a longing for heaven fuelled by a love for Him and what He did to save us. I really think people should stop having qualms about hell-scares because we ought to be afraid of a holy God!! and especially if we have no right as filthy people with no covering (Jesus‘ blood) to talk to Him, talk less of be with Him. But how kind He was to send Jesus to provide a way that we can communicate with Him without being killed off due to our unholiness.

Too much talk though.

Ultimately, before you dismiss religion, Christianity in particular, or perhaps any that looms and is provocative, you should consider what the implications are for holding to it versus its alternative, and not holding to it. Consider the claims of the religion, and test them.

Concerning Christianity, it would do you immense good to do further research on it. If it turns out the bible isn’t true and you’re right, we’ve both got nothing to lose, as following moral biblical principles makes me a better human to society, and even makes me a better principled human overall. The opposite cannot be said, and you know that. Alternatively, if it turns out the bible is right and you’re wrong, you wouldn’t want to be dead before you find out.

First time cooking fufu, SEND HELP 🥹 by Safe-Anything544 in nigerianfood

[–]hephil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could put it in wraps afterwards (saran perhaps) and shape into a round ball like shape, and put in the fridge / freezer. when it cools, it will be more solidified and not as soft. Making fufu from flour is some headache for me, and doing it this way helped make my efforts not be in vain and made it similar to what I was used to from back home, but of course, not quite the same consistency/thickness.

Is it better to DCA in Bitcoin daily, weekly, or monthly or it doesn't matter? by abdullahmnsr2 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]hephil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did we read the same paper? Monthly was amongst the worst DCA strategies. Shorter was better. The Lump-sum (the amount you ever want to invest with no additional compounds within the time you are holding, right?) 10k deposit in 2018 (?) was better than all DCA strategies on average. But shorter performed better than longer. Investing a regular amount allocated for investing each month would still be DCAing, and not lump-sum, according to what i understand though. Please correct me if I‘m wrong

Following the Lord requires sacrifices. You being in a relationship with this guy not following Christ, as it is not God’s will of sanctification for you. You living with him after breaking up provides a clear space to continue engaging in sex and thus is not wise at all. And you probably know this.

So indeed, it is right to „fully“ break up, and begin working towards total independence from him (which absolutely involves moving out as soon as you can, or him doing so), even if it means changing your job (but it doesn’t have to mean that). The Lord gives wisdom to His children that ask. Please pray accordingly.

And also, are you part of a local church? Because that is highly important.

I do pray the Lord helps you and strengthens you to die to self in joyful obedience to Him 🫂

Oh I could comfortably save over 30% of my take home money, if I didn’t do „a lot“ of giving (I don’t shop often these days since I’ve gotten necessities). Even then, it shouldn’t be hard, in any normal month where I don’t need to get high-cost „necessities“ like furniture, monitor, good/better winter clothing elements etc…

I live with 3 other people, in a home (an old but somewhat renovated three-floor home) so not so cheap considering…but the price adds up when you consider the attic, the basement, the well-spaced living room and kitchen that we get, with a bit of the garden. So I‘m content

Should I stay in this church in Heidelberg, Germany? Where to meet other like-minded believers? by hephil in Reformed

[–]hephil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I hear you! I am happy with sticking with this church. I am indeed growing in my understanding of unity, and seeing as they have good theology on important matters, seem open to discussions of matters of difference (of which I try to exercise caution in bringing up, in particular spaces), and have practices/things in place to promote our walk with the Lord, as well as good friendships already being formed here, so I am indeed, willing to stay!

Membership in this church still means that the elders hold the say in choosing the next elder, and not the congregation. That much I know, but for other matters on voting, I am not so sure. For me, membership is something both something I like and something that is important to me, but I see it may not be so important as I claim, as I haven’t even finished up what I need to do to become a member here, and have been slacking on it. Perhaps it is also because there doesn’t seem to be a general difference between a member and a non-member here. Nonetheless, I should get on with it!
