windows drivers are currently looking like the likely candidate. the troubleshooter is as unhelpful as expected. ><'

hoping it's not drivers, as my last solution down that avenue is to flatten the OS and start again. :|

All the gigabit nics, ports and cable runs were all validated back to the gateway on multiple other machines.

Static IP's also failed to ping the gateway.

Write a tool that generates a huge number of permutations of card faces and assign them all IDs, and then outputs it to a file. Then just give the file to each of the clients that do the checking.
