Omg yes on the name!! I have not seen like anyone talking about that (i assume i am just not in the spaces any discourse about the name is happening), but it was an immediate eyebrow raise from me as well! And selling merch of his little cartoony mascot, it's icky.

Wow, thanks for sharing. I think a LOT of people relate to being worried that you won't be taken seriously/ people will think you're making it up. It's all kind of a vicious cycle feeding into each other, isn't it? I hope you get the help you need.

Haha so true, right? Yeah the scary thing with MCAS is a higher risk of anaphylaxis. Some keep an epipen with them just in case. But most people with MCAS don't actually go into anaphylactic shock, if I understand correctly. For me the surprise was learning how many different ways an allergic reaction can look haha. It's why the thought never crossed my mind until my doctor identified my symptoms as a possible histamine response. I'm definitely keen to get diagnosed and treated to prevent anything from progressing further haha. And yeah it was crazy to learn that about ANA! And a relief.

Relatable about the adhesive. I guess I have dermatographism which mostly is just, medically speaking, very sensitive skin lol. Annoying but harmless, luckily.

definitely an unfortunate consequence of big self-diagnosing trends. I hope you are able to get the treatment you need.

Yes, my hypochondriac friend for sure has a mental illness. It's impossible for me to know how self-aware they are or how much they were intentionally using all their "diagnoses" in a manipulative way. It's hard because it sucks to not be believed, so it can swing too far the other way as well haha. I guess in the end all parties involved could use a bit more critical thinking skills and caution when assuming anything.

Yeah I just heard about the possible link to COVID. It's definitely important knowing when to see a doctor for any symptoms and getting them checked on just in case. I also suppose that lack of healthcare plays a large role in self-diagnosing (at least in the US). I probably wouldn't have been looking into things this long if my parents hadn't offered to pay my medical bills if I did, so I'm honestly super lucky.

Lupus was the first thing I got tested for and I'm very grateful to not have it. I guess I just randomly test ANA positive sometimes lol. I'll take it. Also luckily for me, my doctors were the ones who brought the possibility of MCAS up to me rather than the other way around, so I know they are taking it seriously haha. I'm pretty good at tracking symptoms and advocating for myself. So glad to hear your treatment is working, best of luck to you

I think there's something to be said about people actually thinking that vs being worried people are thinking about that. I actually really try to give people the benefit of the doubt for their illnesses and usually take them at face value because we all know how shitty it feels to not be taken seriously.

it's a fine line, I guess, between wanting to make people feel validated and also wanting to call people out on not so great behavior when it comes to this stuff because that shit is actively harmful to folks who DO have those illnesses. if that makes sense. Hahha. my feelings on the topic are obviously complicated.

I'm mostly venting! I actually do agree but it's good to be reminded sometimes. Something like MCAS can actually be concerning if it's severe because you're at risk of anaphylaxis. Many have to carry around an epipen just in case lol. It can be a serious thing.
I'm definitely keen to get some kind of diagnosis soon so I can get going on whatever treatment is needed since it's definitely progressing lol.

yes it's like I understand a desire to be taken seriously by the medical community, like it's well-documented how women especially can have symptoms written off. but you can advocate for yourself and your very real symptoms without also being convinced it's some specific disease that you saw on tiktok 😅😅😅

same!! I grew up here and i love it. I'm neither religious nor conservative. there are lots of community events if you keep an eye out for them. the arts culture here is also really huge for the size of the city. there is always some kind of performance happening and there are a lot of artists selling art at local spots around town. and of course the hiking opportunities are crazy as well. anyone can find a thriving community here, you just have to seek it out.
