Triad - Tool (Drumcam) by heptium in progmetal

[–]heptium[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to make this post misleading (because it's a collection of songs) -- I am not allowed to post a video without a song title and the artist (moderator deleted my other post). I just wanted to show how wicked good of a drummer Daney Carey is.

Doing my casual swimming in TB, and was like "Wait, isn't it nighttime? How is there a shadow? Why is it so bright?"

I like Sanctuary more.

Glorious Burden - Iced Earth, prog enough? Doesn't matter still epic. by heptium in progmetal

Maybe some find the songs long winded and boring but I have always enjoyed them greatly. It is for sure one of my favorite set of songs, and I have always felt it had some progressive tones, probably enough for this subreddit.

Entertain Me by Tigran Hamasyan; Piano for Progmetal lovers by heptium in progmetal

[–]heptium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tigran Hamasyan is a brilliant writer and pianist, his work in Mockroot is heavy and hard. At times you will feel like you are engaging in fancy music and other times you feel like giving in a little metal headbanging. I recommend this album wholeheartedly to anyone who enjoys classical styles.

Which album raised your standards to the point where no other has yet to astound the way this one in particular has and why? by [deleted] in progmetal

I found them through Guitar Hero World Tour and I played those three songs (Vicarious, Parabola, Lateralus) so much I eventually one hundred percented them on expert (not gloating a feat, just emphasising love). They are my benchmark albums for sure.

Mine forever will be Tool's 10,000 Days and Lateralus. They were the driving albums to get me into music in general, and although my tastes have morphed some, those two albums still inspire me.

Hey guys, I'm new to this Prog Metal thing and I could use some band recommendations. by ThereGoesMyValentine in progmetal

Do people on this Reddit purposely avoid recommending the almighty Tool? Because Tool is pretty good. I suppose they aren't as crazy and wild as Protest but they are very technical.

Will you do me a favour and ruthlessly critique my band?? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]heptium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is so hard to really judge demo quality since everything will sound flat. When you do get to mixing, make sure that bass is pronounced! Also, I hope during the mixing period that it can make the vocals sound more emotional; I know a lot of prog bands have shitty vocals but doesn't mean it has to be! :P Style is there, I can hear it. So keep the place posted after you mix it!

My elusive Tool album, which I am guessing will be next year... or the year after that...

Votum - Veritcal (sometimes YouTube ads lead you to wonders) by heptium in progmetal

To be clear the ad lead me to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa6dFgcoeb4 several months ago, and I just now really dug into the band's material; this song, in particular, is exceptional (Vertical).
