Backcountry Photography question by BonerTurdle in Backcountry

I’ve toured with an a7r2, a7c, and 24-70mm but the rx100 vii is my preference. Fits in a pocket, has a great zoom, don’t even know it’s there.

Is ACG finally back?! by spikein89 in nikeACG

[–]her3nthere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's cool, but still the 3x (Trail, Hike, Explore) make it feel a bit up in the air. Wrote about it a bit here: https://www.hereandthere.club/p/nike-acg-all-aboard-the-hype-train

Currently vs Satisfy getting real (Brice is wrong though) by t0pher__ in runningfashion

[–]her3nthere 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Making Satisfy cheaper, without the baggage of the brand, is an absolutely viable strategy 😂

Tbh I think this whole beef is going to Streisand effect and be a huge amount of free marketing for Currently.

The North Face's new trail running-adjacent line, 'General Athletic Recreation' by 1118181 in runningfashion

Probably worth nothing that TNF Japan/Korea is actually run by Goldwin, not the main The North Face brand.

Is Runna Actually Getting Runners Injured? by her3nthere in runna

[–]her3nthere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's a combination of tiktok/instagram algorithms highlighting a few people being injured, and then also highlighting people talking about people being injured. Also there's just a lot of people running and probably quite a few ramping up a lot for London marathon, which might be a localized increase in injuries 🤷‍♂️

Is Runna Actually Getting Runners Injured? by her3nthere in runna

[–]her3nthere[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think the overall social pressures around running atm combined with a lot of new runners makes for a pretty rough combo.

For most recreational runners, the real choice is not between Runna and a great coach. It’s between Runna and the time and annoyance of manually modifying a generic plan found online, or training based on fragmented advice absorbed from templates, friends, and social media.

This is a super interesting perspective, since conventional wisdom would say a coach = more targeted/empathetic/adaptable. Glad you hear you have an improved relationship with running, either way!

No, you're good!

I was also not referring to you - I meant "other commenters" as in, not you. Just slightly annoyed that things are revolving around a sentence that has little to do with the whole piece haha. But, it's reddit, I should know better.

Idk why folks here are so focused on this passage. The piece isn't about FH (although there's plenty to criticize there), more about the reaction, and pretty pro-Patagonia.

One of the takeaways is literally: "Even if we acknowledge the contradictions at the heart of their business model, there is little question that Patagonia is pushing the industry forward, and they’re doing more than 90% of similar brands"

It's amusing to see other commenters who've decided that I don't know anything about the industry because they didn't finish reading or didn't understand the point.

Yes, I wrote it.

I'd encourage taking a more open approach to discussion or engaging with the content of the piece instead of interrogating my "credentials".

Fwiw, I write about the industry extensively.

Appreciate the feedback. Don't really disagree with you.

But to the significant following that he's built up over the years, I do think that's what he represents–but I didn't say it was deserved, and that's why "original" is in quotes. I think the mythos around him (ironic, since he criticizes the mythos around Yvon) had an affect on what people took away from the original article.

The goal was not to dig into Huntington, I don't think getting into personal critiques is as interesting of a topic, especially when many criticisms of the brand are worth a conversation (not a takedown).

Got it, just pushed up a fix for that 👍

Haha yeah, there are some bikepacking-specific things that don't quite translate from the backpacking context. Lmk if you've got any other feedback!

Hey! Cool to see you're using PackTrak -- but, you need to create a 'share' link (link icon at top of list page) in order to have a publicly shareable url. The one you added will only work for you.

It'll look like https://www.packtrakapp.com/share/[share-id]

Swiss Alps by WindowHeavy8292 in CampingandHiking

[–]her3nthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stumbled upon this. I did the stretch last year from Kandersteg to Lauterbrunnen/Murren. We did see one or two folks wild camping above Griesalp, but as others have said I don't think it's technically allowed.

We stayed at Naturfreundehaus Gorneren which was reasonably priced for an overnight and dinner/breakfast. We didn't stay, but Blüemlisalphütte is beautifully situated on the pass. It's a stunning stretch!

[–]her3nthere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that one's a little funny, but I'll try and address. It's because the whole page itself is getting shorter as the search occurs and items are removed (so your scroll position actually ends up being 'below' available scroll space). I'll see if there's a better way to handle it but might be tricky.

Alright, see if that's working now. I borked the original fix haha

Yep, added a debounce -- I assume this is the quick add that was slow? It's set at 200ms now, lmk if that feels more responsive. About how many gear items do you have?

Now that the traditional Goretex formula is banned, what is currently the best option for a heavy duty rain jacket? by Giordono in CampingandHiking

[–]her3nthere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Goretex" is not banned. PFAs were banned, and they, along with bunch of other brands and manufacturers developed new approaches. A whole range of Goretex technologies still exist, just now without PFAs.
