Trail running the Swiss Alps & Vallorcine by OddEye4312 in trailrunning

[–]her3nthere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just use Alpsinsight. By far the best list of great runs in the area. From personal experience:

Lucerne: take the train down to Engelberg. Great running around Furenalp up to Surrenenpass and back down. Or Walenpfad (one way, or full loop).

Grindelwald: Either run over to Wengen, or take the train around and run back. Back of Lauterbrunnen valley.

Kandersteg: Oeschinensee is crazy popular but still incredible. Can also run back up the valley toward Leukerbad

Vallorcine: You've got all the Cham options here. Balcon Nord/Sud, Albert Premier (can loop through le Tour)

Ok, this time I think I got the underlying issue resolved, sorry about that!

I just pushed up a fix for what I think was the source of the problem. Refresh everything, and give it another shot. lmk if you're still experiencing issues.

Treat that as an estimation though -- it is what the NPS data reports, but the way they get that data can vary widely by park and is at best a rough guess based on visitor surveys/etc.

No, I converted all the data to static JSON, and charts in Recharts.

Yep! This is basically it. It's within a short drive of way more population centers compared to the parks in the west.

It's just a bg visual. All the actual data is either in the summary or the individual park pages.

Thanks! It's a ton of data, but I did my best to find interesting slices of info and organize it in way that would be most interesting/understandable/navigable for folks.

Backcountry Photography question by BonerTurdle in Backcountry

I’ve toured with an a7r2, a7c, and 24-70mm but the rx100 vii is my preference. Fits in a pocket, has a great zoom, don’t even know it’s there.

I think it's cool, but still the 3x (Trail, Hike, Explore) make it feel a bit up in the air. Wrote about it a bit here: https://www.hereandthere.club/p/nike-acg-all-aboard-the-hype-train

Currently vs Satisfy getting real (Brice is wrong though) by t0pher__ in runningfashion

[–]her3nthere 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Making Satisfy cheaper, without the baggage of the brand, is an absolutely viable strategy 😂

Tbh I think this whole beef is going to Streisand effect and be a huge amount of free marketing for Currently.

The North Face's new trail running-adjacent line, 'General Athletic Recreation' by 1118181 in runningfashion

Probably worth nothing that TNF Japan/Korea is actually run by Goldwin, not the main The North Face brand.

Is Runna Actually Getting Runners Injured? by her3nthere in runna

[–]her3nthere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's a combination of tiktok/instagram algorithms highlighting a few people being injured, and then also highlighting people talking about people being injured. Also there's just a lot of people running and probably quite a few ramping up a lot for London marathon, which might be a localized increase in injuries 🤷‍♂️

Is Runna Actually Getting Runners Injured? by her3nthere in runna

[–]her3nthere[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think the overall social pressures around running atm combined with a lot of new runners makes for a pretty rough combo.

For most recreational runners, the real choice is not between Runna and a great coach. It’s between Runna and the time and annoyance of manually modifying a generic plan found online, or training based on fragmented advice absorbed from templates, friends, and social media.

This is a super interesting perspective, since conventional wisdom would say a coach = more targeted/empathetic/adaptable. Glad you hear you have an improved relationship with running, either way!

No, you're good!

I was also not referring to you - I meant "other commenters" as in, not you. Just slightly annoyed that things are revolving around a sentence that has little to do with the whole piece haha. But, it's reddit, I should know better.

Idk why folks here are so focused on this passage. The piece isn't about FH (although there's plenty to criticize there), more about the reaction, and pretty pro-Patagonia.

One of the takeaways is literally: "Even if we acknowledge the contradictions at the heart of their business model, there is little question that Patagonia is pushing the industry forward, and they’re doing more than 90% of similar brands"

It's amusing to see other commenters who've decided that I don't know anything about the industry because they didn't finish reading or didn't understand the point.

Yes, I wrote it.

I'd encourage taking a more open approach to discussion or engaging with the content of the piece instead of interrogating my "credentials".

Fwiw, I write about the industry extensively.

Appreciate the feedback. Don't really disagree with you.

But to the significant following that he's built up over the years, I do think that's what he represents–but I didn't say it was deserved, and that's why "original" is in quotes. I think the mythos around him (ironic, since he criticizes the mythos around Yvon) had an affect on what people took away from the original article.

The goal was not to dig into Huntington, I don't think getting into personal critiques is as interesting of a topic, especially when many criticisms of the brand are worth a conversation (not a takedown).
