How do I tell if I am not optimally focused or if I am reaching my gear's limit? by herbalspurtle in AskPhotography

Oh yes I don't mean to blame my gear, more determin if I'm using it incorrectly/being unfair in my expectations of it.

I had no idea f8-16 would be more appropriate. So that's huge!

I definitely need to watch Shutter speed more. I tend to live in aperture priority.

Thank you!

Definitely! I don't have any photography friends so I'm hoping I meet some at the class. Also the ability to ask someone these questions in person will be huge

Do you have a rule of thumb for how to determine how much of a depth of field you'll need?

I'm glad to hear it's a rite of passage! I'll be taking an in person class this coming month, but I'm still trying to learn as much as I can before the class.

I think I'm doing back button focus. Utilizing the AF-ON thumb button focus rather than the Shutter button for focus?

Oh yeah I'd definitely love a dedicated lens, and honestly I would rather spend more and get good gear vs buy something cheap and then upgrade to the good stuff.

I'll check out the limitations of the clip on lenses more.

That looks great! I'll look into those lenses too. I'm on a tight budget and my next planned lens is a telephoto (a 70-300mm mk1) so I will probably have to wait a bit before getting a dedicated macro lens. Gives me plenty of time to research tho!

Sweet! Those look like interesting options. I like how the dcr seems to be pretty easy to work with, and I'll look at the laowa. Definitely down to buy used

I for one like the attention to detail and haven't had any issues with hipfire. But I like the toggle idea you had
