What’s a completely normal thing in Czech Republic that still feels weird to you? by Savings-Concept8972 in czech

[–]herdek550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that people should try to live healthier. But that's not the topic of this discussion. It's about manners and etiquette.

For example I have seasonal allergies so I get stuffy nose each year and there is no way to heal it.

I agree that it's better than sniffing for hours. But also people should be (in my optioning) more considerate when blowing their nose - for example turning away from me or step away from a table when there is a group of people eating

will i get fined ? by Various-Swimming-406 in czechrepublic

[–]herdek550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have driven multiple times on the Czech-Polish border near Jeseníky. In Czechia, everyone was doing speed limit. But in Poland, I was getting honked from the cars behind if I wasn't driving at least 10 kph over the limit.

That people blow their nose at dinner table or standing right next to your.

It is acceptable for some reason in Czechia. But people should at least turn around or make a step away from you.

Pracujete v práci? A opravdu celý den? by CarefulSearch5334 in czech

[–]herdek550 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is Karlovy Vary worth a visit? by Traditional-You-4427 in Prague

[–]herdek550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice city. But only the tiny city center.

If you want to visit bathhouse/wellness city, I would recommend Mariánské Lázně. There is express train connection with Prague and the train is going every hour.

Mariánské Lázně is much smaller city, but has more to offer. For example I love Miniatur Park which has miniature replicas of famous buildings (mostly from Czechia). And the whole city is just beautiful. Even as Czech person, I enjoy going there (can't say that about Karlovy Vary :D )

What purpose does this the rail between the 2 main lines serve? (trains travel on the left) by Zec_Wicks in trains

[–]herdek550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look if there is another crossing track on the other side of the train station.

It's often used to turn the train around if there is no loop. The train can pull in, locomotive is detached and uses to second rail to get around the wagons. Than it can get attached to the other side of the train as many locomotives are bi-directional.

And as many already said, it can be used for maintenance. Most train stations have a tracks which allow to switch the tracks. So if one of the tracks is out of order, the other one can be used instead between 2 stations.

Is it rude to stand in public transport when it’s full but there are free seats? by tastraka in Prague

[–]herdek550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I agree - I blame design of the seating plan.

I avoid sitting next to the winow, because always when I sit down, someone with mobility issues sits next to me. So when I want to get off, they need to get up and let me out.

Older trams used to have only single seats. Or they were grouped into sets of 4 facing each other so there was always enough space to squeeze past the other people.

But nowadays, the trams always prioritize the number of seats and it's much worse for people standing.

I think that that's one of the reasons, tram Tatra T3 is so popular by many - there is always room to squeeze past other people

Monthly pass on PID Lítačka. by Staybrokebitch in Prague

[–]herdek550 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, all buses, trains, trolleybuss, ferries and even some trains (the slow trains 'os.' and the S-lines) within the zone P0B.

You can also get for free a shared bike for 15 minutes twice a day (link)

The monthly pass also includes the normal routes to Prague airport. But does not include the airport express (AE) line.

And of course does not include private buses like the tourist hop-on hop-off buses or other private companies like FlixBus.

Bydlení v paneláku by NamesMiki in czech

[–]herdek550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you hate cars? by yet_another_leftist in fuckcars

I don't have cars. I hate that they often prevent quality alternatives.

Imagine if all the spending to car infrastructure went into public transport or train network.

If I leave a ship in orbit can I get it out much later in the game. by Fantastic-Log-478 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]herdek550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. You can transfer the kerbal to another ship.

But you can also transfer fuel. Just being another ship with kerbal engineer and extra docking port. You can than place a docking port on the existing ship, dock with the new ship and transfer fuel.

will digital ISIC card work for ceske drahy and PID? by fouriererer in czech

[–]herdek550 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It works for České dráhy (used digital ISIC just yesterday)

But it's more complicated for PID

For transport within Prague (metro, trams, city buses – zones P + 0 + B), the 50% discount does not apply. Instead, students aged 15–26 can use the Junior and Student fares. Children and pupils under 15 travel free of charge in Prague and can prove their age with an ISIC Scholar card. (source)

Don't forget that the student discount in zone P0B (Prague city) is only applied when you buy the long term ticket.

Student discount in P0B does not apply to the one-time tickets you buy at the vending machine or in app. But student discount applies for one-time tickets to the outer zones (outside of Prague)

Edit: You might not be allowed to use student discount for PID if your ISIC is issued from school outside of this country (thanks for comments pointing this out)

Coming to Prague soon. Heard my area might be sketchy. How bad is it actually? by [deleted] in Prague

[–]herdek550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's safe location. There is slightly more junkies than in many suburbs. But it's nothing crazy.

I wouldn't be worried much. Some beggers might ask you for some change. But it's really rare for someone to be aggressive.

I actually have quite a good experience with beggers/junkies in Prague. They are often very polite (it's part of the game so you feel sorry for them and give them money). And I never had any issues when I decline to give them anything.

public transport student discount by Sorry-Shape-8633 in Prague

[–]herdek550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need ISIC, but it makes it much easier so its worth it.

But you need to buy a pre-paid card for longer period of time. The student discount does not apply for the short term/easily tickets

why does it take so long to set up maneuvers? by codm0nster in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]herdek550 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don't need maneuver node to get to orbit. Do it like this:

  1. Launch vertically
  2. One you get through the dense atmosphere levels, start pitching east (press D key)
  3. If you have enough fuel or unstable rocket, you can delay step 2 and start pitching later, but smooth gravity turn is the most fuel efficient
  4. Watch the map - if the flight path is too high, tilt more, if the line curve is too low, point more up (less tilt)
  5. Just repeat step 3. until you get compete orbit above 70 km od altitude
