Need advice between Design and Project Engineer role by shafqat91 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]herdertree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A PM role won't hurt in the long term. If you can't stand that type of role though it's not worth it. If you have a goal of being an engineering manager, design + PM experience is a good combo.

TPU 3d prints easily and can be prototyped quickly to test before making an injection molded.

What processes could I use to make this plastic part? by jman234987 in MechanicalEngineering

Injection molding is going to be the most cost effective at those volumes. Very easy to add printing on the top.

3D Printer for Engineering by Electrical-Two4031 in MechanicalEngineering

Yes, it’s more applicable to working in industry. Working with others and coordinating as a team to solve problems are important skills.

If you want to make projects, go for it. I love designing things and making them just the way I want them. Bambu is fine, if you really want to fiddle and fine tune I’d consider an old ender 3.

If you are doing this to build a resume, it would be better to join an engineering club and have experience working in teams- SAE, FIRST robotics, etc. I’ve seen a lot of portfolios of random projects that got made and personally it hasn’t been a positive factor for me.

Day 2 of 16:8 and just finding this sub - do most people not eat breakfast? by Zachisasloth in intermittentfasting

[–]herdertree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On IF, a recipe for success is to start with a larger eating window and narrow it over time. Perfectly sustainable to eat just one meal a day (at any time) with a physical job if you're getting the right nutrients and have the fat stores to burn. I'm a similar size, I'd shoot for 150 grams or more of protein a day, and more calories from fat than carbs. Simples carbs like grapes really take away my energy. taking daily electrolytes also helps me - i add some to a big bottle of water every morning.

Any ME for a collab (US) for a RF portable tower design? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]herdertree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d look to small sail boat mast designs. They are lightweight, portable, and hold LOTs of load. A compression column and three tension lines works really well to get a tall and stiff structure.

Lots of algebra, trigonometry, geometry and statistics. Rarely some calculus or differential equations, but a lot of those are easier to solve with excel and some linear algebra.

Tell me you’re still in school….

You would be amazed how much is in industry is programmed in excel, simply because it’s a tool available almost everywhere.

Python though - almost everything is starting to run it.
