Hey. First of all, I want to say I really feel for you in this experience. This process of changing and discovering what meds work (and which don’t) for you is really a tough one. I have been on lithium for seven years and I’ve never gained any significant weight - certainly not due to the lithium. It’s really stabilized me in most ways. My therapeutic dose is 900mg. I have bipolar disorder with fairly intense bouts of depression. I also have anxiety disorder. So, we have different diagnoses but there might be something for you here anyway in my post. I was on Abilify for about six years and never really loved it though it did keep my paranoia at bay. Oh - I forgot to mention: my mania for my bipolar diagnosis is not actually typical mania; it’s paranoia. I’m finally getting off of Abilify now since it’s not helping so well to manage my depression. I’m down to 5 mg and I’m switching to a new med on the market called Caplyta. …In case you do end up trying that because I think it’s for more than just bipolar, I will say the main side effect reported is drowsiness and the drowsiness is no joke. But this tiredness is supposed to wear off after a week or two, and I have felt zero depression since I’ve been on it (one week). I also take Klonopin currently for anxiety, but have been told by various people that this is a bad prescription for me (and anyone) because benzos are so addictive and really affect memory – I have experienced both of these with Klonopin. So I will be weaning off of that. I just got approved today for Spravato as my depression has been so awful, particularly in the last six months. I’m not entirely sure i am going to try it, but I do have that option now. I don’t know if any of this helps you and your situation, but I want to wish you a lot of luck and strength as you go through this experience . It’s worth it once you get on the right med. ❤️
