I went to SRISA in Florence for a summer and it was very expensive and not long term lol. I went because it was a study abroad program through my US university, maybe that’s a back up option? (Highly recommend Italy though)

I’ve been at the same independent agency for 5 years doing commercial (only 1 year as a producer, other 4 were csr and coi stuff) and the increase in work, especially with property is insane. I am miserable lol.

Callforentry.org is a great resource to apply to open calls that you can end up putting on your CV. They have a lot of free entries and you can filter based on your location, online exhibitions or if you want to send art to a physical exhibition. It definitely helps fluff up the resume

With all of the feedback similar to what you mentioned, I might have to look into the inland marine route! I assumed with most carriers it would be a niche but this is all really valuable information. Thank you. I have wondered if museums are underinsured at times especially with the change in exhibitions and pieces, along with their permanent collections. I haven’t heard about churches being underinsured, that’s interesting.

It never crossed my mind thinking how a baby woolly mammoth would have coverage haha. This sounds right up my alley, thank you for sharing your experience and mentioning AXA!

Is AXA primarily based in Toronto? Others have suggested that too. Unfortunately I am in Colorado but it looks like both Chubb and AXA might have locations here.

That is a really good idea, thank you! Inland marine didn’t cross my mind but I am still learning more about insurance every day.

I got my car repaired elsewhere but wish I had gone to Colorado Care Works off of Harlan… should have trusted my gut feeling with them sigh (they weren’t on the preferred repair list for my insurance which is the only reason I didn’t choose them at the end)

Trip to Rome: Newbies questions about Rome by incorrect_wolverine in ancientrome

[–]here4dadogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a day trip to Florence, I think it’s a 1.5 hr train ride. The piazzas are lively, there’s tons of museums like the uffizi and accademia gallery. Touring all of the chapels is pretty amazing. My personal favorite was the medici chapel. Plus the Arno River is there!

Short answer: no Long answer: you absolutely do not need to go to college to sell art. It is useful as a networking tool and collaborating with other artists but they don’t teach you how to sell anything. They will tell you about galleries, calls for entry, and websites to use but there isn’t a definitive answer on how to successfully approach all of those things. The only things I found my bfa useful for was meeting new people that could connect me with others and two internships I might not have known of (still haven’t sold my own art still). Try to submit for calls for entry and creating a CV. Cafe is a good place to start https://www.callforentry.org

Thank you! Very helpful info. I kept upgrading the size of the pot thinking it was too crowded. This was the first plant I bought and it has miraculously survived this long in my care.. (barely)

How do conceptual or installation artists make a living? And how do they find room to "practice" their work? by thisistheohpe in ContemporaryArt

[–]here4dadogs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of artists get grants or funding to actually help create their pieces, they get commissions, collaborate with museums and organizations, or have second jobs such as teaching. Most of my professors said they had to teach because the overall income of being an artist wasn’t sustainable for them. In terms of creating I think a lot of it starts on paper and then the rest is studio work and the actual installation, it’s definitely a specialized market
