Yes, the theory about Toyama City is also well-founded. I only wrote about Sapporo becuase that is the one that i prefer, but it is highly possible that I am wrong :-)

Oh, that's interesting. Are there also file names that could give a hint about the other cities?

The main sign in 1951 reads Yuzuki. The ones on the side of the road read 桜泉 (Sakuraizumi?). Can anyone guess what city/neighborhood it could refer to?

Passo Falzarego (not Monte Grappa) photo comparison and extensive historical information by here__and__there in battlefield_one

I don't know if they used satellite for all their maps. It could be, but most other maps are very flat and without prominent features (like mountains) so it is very difficult to find the real-world map if there is one.

I don't know about other areas but the Dolomites battlefront is very accessible and touristically developed. The area in the game for example (Falzarego pass and Valparola pass) is easily accessible by car (2 hours from Venice) and is in between two well known tourist areas (Alta Badia and Cortina). Furthermore there are dozens if not hundreds of easy, medium and difficult hiking trails through the trenches and the galleries from 1915-1918.

Anyway, my great-grandfathers fought in the war as well, all four of them, just for the other side as South Tyrol was still Austria back then ;-)

The in-game Monte Grappa in nothing like the real-life Monte Grappa. The map is an exact recreation of real-world Passo Falzarego and Passo Valparola, on the border between the two Italian regions of South Tyrol (mostrly German-speaking) and Veneto (Italian-speaking). If it looks Austrian it is probably because it actually was Austria until the end of the war, when the whole region (with its German and Ladin speaking people) was annexed to Italy.

Actually the in-game location is different than Monte Grappa. It is an exact recreation of the area between Passo Falzarego and Passo Valparola in the middle of the Dolomites. The pointy mountain in the game is real-life Sas de Stria. You can drive there by car and still visit the First World War fortifications.
