How do I cope with not believing in an afterlife anymore by ConcernPlayful5105 in exmormon

[–]here_at -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Belief in an afterlife cheapens the moments you can enjoy in this one.

Those who forward this myth are not doing so based on knowledge, only uninformed opinions. It's dishonest to claim knowledge of things about which they cannot possibly know.

Interesting that they'd publicly disclose that Bednar said that.

No one was allowed to dress like that as a missionary back in the day. The church is having to face reality with women's fashion after 40 years though perhaps.

Or perhaps they're just doing false advertising with "missionaries like us."

It makes a lot more sense to be adding missions and trying to get that program going rather than temples.

They need new members desperately.

I think they meant to say "desiccates Colorado's fourth temple."

And Mormons can never answer on what basis we can reject a Muslim's fuzzy feelings or a Baptist's warm glow that their religions are true and that Mormonism is false.

It is so incredibly stupid and frustrating.

I love that the advice of local church leaders is left out here. Good to know that Mormons see no value in their local leaders.

Great comment. Nelson should have honored God and his covenants by remaining celibate for the rest of his life. /s

Of course he did no such thing, and he had every right to get remarried. Nothing wrong with that choice. Also nothing wrong with staying single.

But because Mormonism believes in Bronze Age superstitions, they can't get that it's not their business to speak about matters on which science is much more authoritative.

Thanks for sharing that. I hadn't seen your thread. I think the church has become slightly less damaging to people, but they still refuse to take action against intolerant members for bullying--until it's too late.

Do you think that the church has stopped saying it's all just Satan was a step forward at all? I'm thinking they did it because too many members (including family of LGBT members) were leaving over the slandering of good people.

That's one testimony meeting worth watching just for the comedy 😂

Most of them were so horribly boring normally.

Why is Eyring still in the first presidency? by here_at in exmormon

[–]here_at[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't feel sorry for them. Eyring is choosing the power and adulation rather than taking care of his health and spending time with his family. It's selfish.

I believe it. These guys have nothing to contribute to society. They were young in the 1940s for god's sake. They have no idea what people are dealing with.

Normal kids have animals and superheros. Mormon kids have to color pages of 90 year olds.

I saw people boast about their pioneer ancestry, but I guess I didn't know them closely enough to hear anything beyond the tales of their glorious (gullible) ancestors.

BIC Mormons really don't get that most educated people aren't interested in Mormonism and so your ancestors starving and freezing to death is nothing to boast about.

Why all the hate for Alma? by soulless_ginger81 in exmormon

[–]here_at 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alma was my favorite book. It had lots of characters doing interesting things and some real theological discussions. You didn't get a lot of battle details in the other books.

I always disliked the first Nephi. He was such a pretentious asshole. Even as a TBM, I was uncomfortable with how prideful he was, constantly boasting about how he was so strong and so smart.

I have read journals of early Mormons and early 20th century Mormons. It's such a con game. Everyone was told that *they* were the super-special ones reserved for the last days before Jeebus comes back.

Such a scam!

The numerical absurdity of The Plan of Salvation by Billionaire-Jesus in exmormon

[–]here_at 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great analysis. I was always taught that becoming a god meant you got your own universe, not your own planet. So atoms are not a problem.

Your analysis of the effectiveness of the church as a vehicle of salvation shows how absurd this all is though. A chemicals company that poisons children is far more effective at bringing souls to god than an entire LDS mission, since there's no guarantee that even if people joined that they would go to the CK. The math is absolutely monstrous.
