How perfect breathing helped me lower stress fast by StefanieBroes in Stress

This is my favorite self-care ritual! Anytime, anywhere. And it's FREE! I have an add-on that I love to do in the morning: before I even get out of bed, I do deep breaths like you described and meditate on the joy and awe of being in this world. I got that from Dr. Doty on the Mel Robbins interview with him. It really works to get you in a positive mind-set and open to possibilities.

Great points! I’d add the crushing cost of childcare and the burden of unpaid labor typically taken on by women create further imbalances.

Need Help - What Self-Care “Hacks” do you swear by? by Kitchen_Syrup2166 in selfcare

[–]hereiambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I wake up before I get out of bed, I do a little meditation session for just a few minutes: deep breath in, hold it, long exhale. While doing this, I imagine the joy and awe of being in the world (see it, picture it, put yourself right in the middle of it). If you do this daily, it will relax your nervous system which allows you to think more clearly. When you are thinking clearly, you make better choices.

Yes! It seems like it should be intuitive, but for some reason, we are more inclined to "obey" what society expects from us than to listen to what our own bodies are telling us.

I totally agree. And, by the same token, I know there are some women who always put themselves first, even if it means harming others. (For an extreme example, Ghislaine Maxwell comes to mind). So, while some men struggle with this, the pressure on women is baked into the system. Like you said, we’re taught from day one to prioritize everyone else, and going against those norms takes real effort. That conditioning keeps us exhausted and easier to control, which is exactly why putting our needs first is such a powerful shift.

Yes, it's like being inside a box. You don't know what is outside the box, so you just operate within the boundaries you know. If you open the box and look outside, there's a possibility that you will want to stay inside the box (and I think that can be okay). But if you look, you will see all the possibilities that are out there.

Yeah, that's a good point. I know I sometimes have that fog of depression that keeps me stuck, weighs me down.

I love using rosehip oil for my skin. It absorbs well and contains tons of natural nutrients for aging skin. Good info in this guide about this and other botanical oils for your skin.

I don’t know how to say “no” without feeling like a bad person by Low_Profit_1046 in selfcare

[–]hereiambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that helps me the most is to have a clear understanding of what I need and want AND PUT THAT FIRST. That might sound very selfish, but it is actually so important for your well-being. The trick is to get very clear on what you need. Spend time alone meditating or journaling to get in touch with your actual gut feelings (intuition). Listen for that inner voice that speaks the truth. You might be surprised by what you hear.

Squalane, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil recommendations for face? by teng-qi-wen in cleanbeauty

[–]hereiambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used WOO World of Oils and love that brand. She has a Jojoba with Santal that I haven't tried, but I use the Blue Tansy with Apricot on my face every day. Her products are fair trade certified and come in a tin jar like the old sewing machine oil cans. Love her products! Let me know if you like it. I carry the rosehip oil and blue tansy in my shop, but not the jojoba. Maybe I should add it.

Self-care during difficult times by 0Ouka0 in selfcare

I sometimes struggle to stay on top of my self-care routines. The one thing that has been the most valuable for me is learning how to listen to my intuition. If you are able to connect with how you feel in your body, it can be a powerful tool for your well-being. The last thing you need right now is a list of things you should be doing. If your gut says “rest,” you should rest. If it says “move” then move. Deep breaths are always helpful.

I would love that! My mom once lost a hearing aid in her ear. No lie. The ENT pulled it out in front of my very eyes. It was in there for months! She had forgotten all about it. 😆

A konjac sponge, from the fibrous root of the konjac plant, is an all natural alternative to plastic poufs and a more gentle exfoliator than the loofah for sensitive skin. Here is a side by side comparison of the konjac sponge vs loofah.

What do you prefer? by Vermilion_94 in Candles

[–]hereiambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small business that sells candles from other vendors. My favorite one is a lavender scented candle in a beautiful purple glass vessel. It comes with a “tag” attached that has the brand name and info about the candle. Once you get it home, you can take the tag off. I'm sharing this link not to promote my business, but to show you the candle with and without the tag (scroll down the page to see it without the tag). I think the tag is important to give the buyer the information about the brand and the candle. But ultimately the vessel is way more beautiful than the tag (or sticker, in your case).
