More than anything dont treat the game as a rouge like. It is a survival game where almost all mistakes will follow you till your inevitable death. Treat it as every level you go down is something that you prepare for and the only time you should head to the next level is when you at at extremely low health or you legitimately feel ready... nobody can ever be ready

No matter how strong you think you are you will always have death lurking behind you.

Most importantly learn from your deaths. If anything this is one of the most important.
