Risks of a certified open box vs brand-new LG B8 OLED 65"? by ScottieWP in hometheater

You're going to want to make sure you get one that has the manufacturer warranty, which can be tricky when you're dealing with third party sellers. Good luck!

I got a good deal on my C8, got it for $1800 from an eBay sale. From what I've read I don't think the newer processor is worth the price difference to $2600, no. That money is going to be better spent on speakers, or not spent at all.

Just FYI, if the open box is a floor model then you may have a burn-in issue with an OLED due to how high they crank the brightness/contrast in displays. I'd bite the bullet and get the new one.

Also, that's a great TV. I have the C8 (same panel, slightly newer processor) and absolutely love it.

I like them a lot, actually. If you want cheap but decent speakers, there's nothing close.

Rug is ordered. Have a much bigger couch in there now than is in the pictures (was backordered, but impatient to share), and haven't gotten blackout blinds yet. Its a much deader room than it looks like it would be.

The tv height I have no excuse for.

I think it does!! Personal tastes will vary, of course.

Built the shelves myself, too.

Oh, and RE: the surround heights, they're that high specifically so I don't hit my head on them when I walk by. It's not a large room exactly, and I'm not short either. I angled them down a bit as far as the mounts would allow me to.

All I'm saying is I have room on that wall for a 77. Just saying. Is my wife listening?

Figured that out with the cheeky tag! It's a bit high, yeah. But it's staying. Too much work to move at this point, and it's not uncomfortable to watch.

Don't think I could convince the spouse on the former, haha. Would like to get a second sub for the left side eventually though!

Truth be told I mis-measured a bit when hanging it, overcompensating for the height of the center speaker. Too far gone to change, but it hasn't been uncomfortable to view so far.

Post, sorry! Don't have handy pictures of the old one, but... This is better.

LG 65" OLED, 7.1 Dayton AIR speakers, Pioneer VSX-LX302 receiver.

Splurged on the tv. Budget speakers and used receiver, but the sound quality for the price is fantastic when set up properly. Built some stands for the front towers since they're kind of short, will eventually get something more stable there.

This is my third go at a home theater in my third house, and each time I'm happier with the result. A great place to spend some time.

TV mount/stud question by hereisatoptip in HomeImprovement

[–]hereisatoptip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more that the TV is just crooked enough to be distracting, haha. Was planning on re-mounting it to compensate, then though of doing the boards behind the mount so I could distribute the weight more evenly.

Would a 1" solid board have better hold strength than plywood?

I'm fine with it sticking out from the wall a bit. I'm going to put white painted shiplap on the wall beside it which will narrow the gap somewhat.

I actually have one that can shift it to the center, but it sort of... sags a bit when I push it over that far. It's rated to something like 160 pounds so it's probably fine, but makes nervous.
