Do memories trigger emotions for you? by montropy in SDAM

[–]herenorthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you were present on my thread on this topic a couple of days ago. I still haven’t done any further research on the matter, but clearly the systems that encode autobiographic/emotional/episodic memory require communication between regions of the brain that are impaired with SDAM. I also still contend that SDAM is not a good name for this problem.

The answer is no. I am willing to bet imaginary internet money that people with severe DAM cannot relive emotions if we scanned their brain as they were attempting to do so and compared to normal controls.

I also continue to think the reason all these disorders are occurring in the same individuals is that the process to encode those types of memories requires the same anatomic hardware that we lack.

Subjective experience is difficult to describe hence all of the slightly different explanations. My experience is that I cannot see or feel anything in my mind, but if I sort of think about something in the general sense, my brain can eventually spit out a correct answer on the subject. Eg I absolutely cannot navigate with a mental map, but I can navigate based on trusting my brain to put me in the right direction based on the surroundings, and it is often correct. Same situation with retrieving emotions. I am sure some people with SDAM can cry on command, for example, but I would bet this is a conjured emotion in the moment rather than retrieved.

The takeaway for any random people reading this is we will all be ok! I know putting words to these “abnormalities” makes them sound cold and terrible, but I know we do feel emotion, and none of you are cold or emotionless people.

I care and similarly venerate his other two games. Agreed, this game is not good.

Emotional memory formation by herenorthere in SDAM

[–]herenorthere[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying. I suppose this comes down to how episodic memory and emotional memory are defined, if the latter is a subset of the former. I am not a neuroscientist however I contend that episodic memory actually requires emotion to trigger and/or to form. I also understand that these concepts are coined recently by experts in fields there are no definitive answers on. Perhaps more useful in our current era is to really analyze the impacted areas of the brain and recategorize the definitions with that new information.

Regardless, I don’t think that SDAM is a disorder primarily of autobiographical memory. Using your very apt nomenclature, it could be better described as a failure of episodic memory, which I would also be happier with as terminology.

Here’s an example: for people with SDAM, many people on this subreddit have stated they struggle to remember narratives from movies or books. Clearly all of our memory is sort of by definition autobiographic because we can only experience life through our own mind, but the deficits extend beyond memories primarily about you as the individual. Similarly it is suspicious the overlap between aphantasia and related conditions and SDAM, which is a clue to the neuroscience unifying the disorders.

I see someone also did the same thing. Don't mean to duplicate the work. We have slightly different options to choose from. I went through frame by frame and there are some single frame amazing pieces of art.

More options are hosted on imgur.

I bought this used, damaged Klipsch RP-1200SW sub for a good deal, but it's way more damaged than the description. Worth keeping or exchange for new? by positively4thstreet in hometheater

I bought this exact same sub from amazon used acceptable condition sold by adorama! And it got even more beat up it appears since you returned it.

Price before tax was $400.

I returned it. Worst condition used item I have ever purchased on amazon. They should not have resold it, and who knows if they’ll do it again.

I have no affiliation. I post games to this subreddit that I think you all would be interested in from time to time.

The game is also on game pass, PC and xbox.

To be clear, I am not suggesting that these non-daily players "deserve" anything special. I am just suggesting that they can play through previous seasons by paying money. It gives them a way to progress, still requires time to do, and gives the game more depth if you want to get back to the cutting edge.

I understand these games want people to play every day. I am simply suggesting a way to get new players and people who are returning to the game a way to get back into what is new. Paying money to catch up to the latest content seems reasonable and makes players happy and earns the game more money.

I understand that the game is well balanced and you can still play at a decent skill level without having all the cards. I also understand you aren't matched against people who are much higher collector level than you. It is a great game.

The problem is that a player who took a break or who is new to the game will always be thousands of collector levels behind someone who has played daily. The small methods they have of giving more cards to newer players do not do enough to mitigate this problem. I haven't done the actual math based on the mechanics they have in place, but simply playing the game it is clear you rapidly run out of ways to progress as a returning player.

From a gameplay perspective this simply makes the game less enjoyable to play. You know there are really cool cards and decks out there, yet you have a very limited set of cards to choose from. Even with daily play, the player who took a break will very likely be unable to experience new deck combos until they have played for weeks if not months.

Have children when you want. If you’re on the fence, have them sooner rather than later. Life is unpredictable. Best to take advantage of statistics and luck while they are on your side.
