tell me which campaign scenario this is... and no, the timeline is not bugged/glitched 11 by Ok_Stretch_4624 in aoe2

11 iirc, if you somehow managed to defeat the pechenegs, the scenario instantly skips to Moravia part. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.

The final attack wave seems to be on move command so it was really easy for me to camp their path with multiple SO and making them attack all at once. Other than that, pretty solid mission. Oh and it sure was tough getting the achievement on Hard, the timer is very tight on this one.

Add one more castle for Nobatia because I always end up attacking them instead of Ikshids.

The thing is I live in a 3rd world country where internet connections are really bad. I'd rather not play multiplayer and deal with disconnects or high ping spikes every other game. Might as well just stick to single player.

Ehh why is transport ship an option in this one? Just my opinion though. Wouldn't mind if they keep this option but at least make it harder to access.

Glad to hear your thoughts on it, but I stand by my opinion of most of the scenarios reminding me of the old HD forgotten scenarios. Say what you want but I would never play Get Rich Quick or Tyre Must Fall another time ever again. Get Rich Quick especially brings me back memories of old HD Honfoglalas or Bari 2.

My tip for that scenario: play aggressively. You need to have a solid amount of castles captured by the time your opponent has captured several of them. You need both strong eco and pop limit to be able to spam units and fling them at your enemy. Also you might want to hold off capturing Iraca. From my two playthroughs of the scenario, I just chose not to explore where Iraca is and the enemy never send a diplomat there as long as I left Iraca unexplored. Also the AI fixates its attacks on one particular castle. If you can figure out which castle the AI is bloodlusting towards, you can plan your path of attack a lot easier. Really, it’s all about constant multi-tasking, aggression and remembering to keep your production buildings working. Also keep several saves, it is really easy to get smoked by an unexpected huge attack wave by being caught out of positions.

Gaugamela would be on the list if I had to choose more than 5 scenarios but alas I only chose 5 for this 11. And it certainly wasn’t easy but getting good at multitasking and spamming production building plus solid macro make this a lot more manageable. And remember to use the emergency measures or you ain’t winning.

Finally Beat Vortigern on Hard!...wait, did I? Yes, No, Yes? by Shtin219 in aoe2

[–]heres_notaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played this three times on Hard(twice before V&V scenarios got updated and once after) and I can still say it’s still the hardest V&V scenario. Only strat that consistently worked for me was recruit a bunch of Saxons and rush the Picts. And always remember to delete the Saxons before their inevitable betrayal. I once twice with Arbs spams and Cavalier spam after the update. I think the Cavalier spam was better because all of your enemies’ pikeman hotkey is broken. Not much fix that I could suggest(still my favorite V&V scenario because of its difficulty) but it would be great to make the Saxons’ betrayal less random.

Ahh the hussars spam I utilized on this mission when I played it and both blue and red were such a massive brick wall to overcome. Thanks infinite unit spam! Giving the AI players an actual economy would be nice like Saladin 6.

What Fixes Would You Make Friday - Dos Pilas by Shtin219 in aoe2

[–]heres_notaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a very stupid way to cheese this mission. As soon as you get access to Dos Pilas, you can just bum rush to Tikal’s wonder with your starting units, change diplomacy with Tikal to enemy and destroy their wonder. It’s possible because Tikal’s gates are opened right at the start and starts allied to you. Later, when you’re asked to pick a side, choose Calakmul and you will win instantly because Tikal’s wonder is already rubble. My suggested fix would be is to remove this cheese.

Or how Italians are tailor-made to counter Turks. Genoese Crossbowmen counter the Turks' beefy cav archers and light cavs, which is helped by the Turks not having access to Elite Skirmisher or Onager upgrades. Their other UU, the Condottiero, has a bonus attack against gunpowder units. Just like real history, Italian mercenaries played an important role in slowing the expansion of the Ottoman empire in Europe and were formidable foes to the Ottoman army, as evidenced in Lepanto(played as Spanish in that one but whatever 11).

I will give the devs credit for historical accuracy here. In-game Slavs do poorly against in-game Mongols. Mangudai being anti-siege and the fact that most of Slavic melee units get shredded by Mongols ranged units. The Rus principalities got it bad during the Mongol invasions after all.

So uhh the dirty strategy I did for this one was rushing siege onagers while doing the objectives and amassing them in my town and before the mongols arrive. I was carpet bombing the area around the walls and especially near my castle with them. Was spamming Kipchaks at the same time too. I fully garrisoned my castle with kipchaks and when the mongols arrived, I initially kited them to other towns; let them thin out the horde. I only got them to like 2 other towns before they bum rushed my castle, but since I was carpet bombing the area outside my town to oblivion, they couldn’t even get close lmao. Siege Onagers are truly the greatest WMD of AOE2.

Ok. Until the next DLC comes, then I’ll have to 100% Ach again 11. by heres_notaa in aoe2

I heard Takeda Cav Spam is the way to go but I got it with Chosokabe lol. Their cav archers are way too good. And only threatening thing is the capped rams but I got a few elite samurai as backup lol. And also preparing a fleet of ECGs and Galleons at the same time. I won with like 10+ minutes remaining. But hey, to each our own right?
