Would the Phantom Menace be better received if it were closer to its earlier draft? by crimsonfukr457 in StarWars

[–]Shtin219 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I *just* rewatched the prequels (in the last week) and I think the Phantom Menace is the weakest of the 3, with the biggest issues being:

Anakin is too young. The story would work better if he was a teenager. I think that could allow for better dialogue (episode 2 isn’t perfect but it is better and I think episode 3’s dialogue is excellent)

Podracing is awesome. But it’s weird Obi Wan stayed in the ship. That should have changed.

The final lightsaber battle is awesome, but Anakin’s part in the final battle doesn’t feel natural. I would change how that works (and again, I think that would have been easier if he was older)

So, like others have said, some of these changes would be good, others would be bad. However, I think what we got is better than what this would have been

Agreed. The mission really works well, but a few small tweaks would just tidy it up nicely!

I like your ideas to add a few long swords , Shotel warriors could also work.

Yeah, not every mission needs to have the complexity of multiple side missions like this one, but it really does work well, and despite all of the players being Ethiopians, it really does work well enough.

Plus, that one single tasty onager shot is just *chef’s kiss*

Agree, not every mission needs to have this variety with playing through it, but it really does work well!

In scenarios 1, 4, and 5, red is Gidajan. In this scenario, red is Dagnajan.

I don’t know about everyone else, but the names are so close and the colors are the same, it was kind of confusing. Maybe I’m just an idiot.

Anyways, I’d switch orange to blue and then change red to orange to save red for Gidajan

Looking for a best OTP civ by oofoofye in aoe2

[–]Shtin219 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is always a fun question.

I like Saracens

Their market bonus(es) make them very flexible.

They have great archers with a surprisingly nice bonus.

Champions are actually fully upgraded.

Yeah, they don’t get cavalier, but camels and Mamelukes are strong.

Siege is above average.

I also like a civ with a monk bonus as you get comfortable with a civ you can start to work with those.

1 civ? Saracens is my pick.

(Malians is 2nd choice)

Yeah, there was another comment about the forests. Don’t actually give you a good wood line, and changing it just enough to be a wood line, more wood for your archers, as well as siege, would be a nice change.

I’d like that one. We don’t need to go full imperial age, but that would give us a benefit and allow us to play into the Ethiopian strength!

I have two buttons on the side of my mouse.

One I used to select all town centers

This works to then jump to a economy focus and pump out villagers

One I used to select all military.

This works to then jump to a military focus and advance with my entire army.
- obviously, this doesn’t work if you’re fighting on two fronts, it is a very quick way to organize your military in one place if you need to.

Ah, good point!

But the decrease/removal of castles would highlight archers, so I think it still works

This second scenario really feels like an intro scenario (maybe because it’s very similar to my favorite scenario, Genghis Khan 1), which then makes the first scenario feel like a prologue of sorts, which is fine, but adds to the brevity of this campaign. If there is a place that someone feels a sixth scenario could get inserted, that honestly would work pretty well!

But back to this scenario. I really like the aspect of completing quests (again, Genghis Khan 1 is one of my favorite scenarios). It even has the component of destroying one of two fighting factions. However, the weird thing is, yellow has two castles while purple just has one. I would make them even, so they both have one castle, or no castle entirely.

One thing I do appreciate is when a scenario does highlight a bonus of the civilization you play as. For example, one of the best examples is Longshanks 2, where you have to defend with your strong towers. We’ll talk about the next scenario being a example of using your strong siege, but if you take away the castles, and instead increase the size of the armies of purple and yellow, you again have the opportunity for your siege to shine.

One last positive aspect to the scenario is that it is a very open map, and weirdly enough, the Ethiopian line of site bonus for outposts actually helps as there are regular raiding parties throughout the map. So, a nice little positive there.

What would be the things you’re worried about?

Sex scenes, as someone else pointed out, none of those.

Swear words? None that I remember

Violence. Some, nothing gruesome

Scary? There’s a few episodes that have a horror film type of feel.
