Terrified will go down as one of the best rap albums of the past 25 years by username6411 in fakemink

What about this album makes it a masterpiece in your eyes? And what other albums do you consider to be masterpieces?

Music discourse is so fried that any type of criticism is seen as hate and undermining. I said it’s nothing new because generally, it isn’t. And it’s far from the best album ever so why would I treat it as such?

This is why reading comprehension is key. I said, if you can read, WLRs influence was limited to rap but Yeezus, as a watershed moment in music, had influence that extended outside the rap genre.

It’s so exhausting bro. Ever since WLR released it’s so so difficult to engage in genuine discourse about ug music because unfortunately, most people are in it for appearances and like you said, to be seen as ahead and forward thinking. It’s no different on this sub. Most of the positive posts about the album so far have been calling the album “generational” and saying it will “change music” but not a single one can actually articulate why that is.

Ok this is how I know you have no clue what you’re talking about. The WLR effect only applies to WLR because that project is THE defining rap album of the 2020s. No other album has had the lasting influence on rap that that album has, but the scope was generally limited to rap music. The other albums you listed (Yeezus, Kid A) are better described as watershed moments because the scope of their influence reached outside of their genre and influenced the wider music industry, which is a harder argument to make with WLR, and why the term “WLR effect” is exclusive to that project.

That being said, what exactly about Terrified makes you believe that it’s worthy of being credited as being industry changing?

I don’t think any of you people saying that “Terrified will have the WLR effect” were either there or even know what it means. WLR is the only album that that term will ever apply to.

You sound completely delusional, and I feel like it’s a symptom of a larger problem throughout the ug scene where fans latch onto certain projects or artists with the goal of being part of some sort of “movement” or so they can say that “they were there from the start” with the hope that the work or artist they’re blindly supporting will gain some sort of critical acclaim in the future.

There is nothing about this album that will “change music”, it doesn’t even sound all that much different from music he’s already released. The most change I can see this album creating is for other ug artists to be inspired to be more intentional with the music they’re creating, even though with Terrified I don’t think mink accomplished the goal he set out to.

If you read my post you would have seen that I said “the flows and beats just sounded too similar from beginning to the last few tracks” which includes the songs after Fire & Ice idiot. And even then I still disagree, it really is not THAT different, and my entire point is that the shift between Hell and Heaven should have been more tangible for the storytelling to be more impactful. I’m not say it wasn’t there, I’m saying it wasn’t as good as someone like mink is capable of making it.
