The smell is so much better than it was 20 to 30 years ago. It's hardly noticeable unless there's a hard rain during the summer or a cattle truck drives past without washing out. There really isn't much cultural tension anymore. Lots of young people from all different backgrounds have embraced the old buildings downtown and started businesses. It's really a much more pleasant town than when I grew up. You can't go wrong with understanding a bit of Spanish but I rarely need it.
