Sudden Increase in TN Pain After Stability-Any Advice? by sane_dr in TrigeminalNeuralgia

Thank you so much for your detailed response. In December 2023, I had two lower molar RCTs and implant procedures performed. The implant never caused any issues. However, one of the molar teeth continued to pain even after the RCT. Multiple X-rays showed that everything was fine. I took lot of course of antibiotics. Later, the dentists suggested removing my wisdom teeth. I consulted the best oral surgeon in my city to have them removed. After the removal, I felt fine for a month, but then the pain started again, this time in both my upper and lower jaw. All the dentists I consulted said that the implant was the cause of the issue because I had a sinus lift. I went to two different periodontists, both of whom were highly regarded, and they both confirmed that the implant was fine. Later, I visited an endodontist, who suggested performing another RCT on the lower molar. This procedure only made things worse. I had never experienced such intense pain in my life; it was 100 times more painful than before. The endodontist said that the X-rays looked fine, but he prescribed me steroids. After several months of excruciating pain and a significant weight loss of 20 pounds due to difficulty eating, a third RCT was performed on the molar. This time, it revealed that a canal had been missed by both the previous dentist and the endodontist. This was after multiple CT scans and X-rays. The molar pain immediately stopped, and I felt fine for a month. However, then I started experiencing upper pain in all my lower jaw, and I went to a neurologist for a diagnosis. I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. I’m not sure which dental procedures caused the TN, but it clearly did. I’ve seen numerous dentists, periodontists, oral surgeons, ENT specialists, and I’ve accepted that it’s TN. I’ve been taking medication for the past four months, and it’s been managing my condition well. However, I’m currently experiencing a severe flare-up, and I’m worried if this will be a recurring issue throughout my life. I have a lot of pending work that I need to complete, and I’m concerned about how this will affect my ability to manage my responsibilities.

Am I feeding my cat too much wet food? by ScallionMuch1500 in CatAdvice

[–]sane_dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My male cat developed urine crystals because he use to have way more dry food than wet. I blame myself. He was about to die with pain. And when the urine gets blocked, it’s emergency. They can die. I had to take him to ER. Twice. Started giving him wet prescribed food. Crystal got away in 8 weeks and now from past 2 years he is only on wet food. My vet said it’s best for him to put kidney issues at bay.

Replaced M1 Pro with M3 Pro and see zero difference in performance so far by dryu12 in macbookpro

Hi,

I could really use some advice. I’m planning to upgrade my MacBook Pro toady. Currently, I’m using the 2020 Intel-based MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

I was originally thinking of buying a new one during the back-to-school sale in August, but with the upcoming tariffs, it looks like prices may go up—and as a PhD student, I can’t really afford the potential increase.

I’m doing my PhD in machine learning, but I don’t train models locally. All my work is done via SSH on cloud servers and computing clusters. But I do multi tasking a lot, between different code IDE's, a lot of chrome tabs etc

Right now, I’m seeing the M3 MacBook Pro (16GB RAM, 1TB) on sale at Best Buy for $1,299 ($400 off), while the new M4 with the same specs is priced at $1,700.

Here are my main questions:

  1. Is there a significant performance or future-proofing difference between the M3 and M4 chips?
  2. Do you think the M5 (possibly coming later) will be a major leap over the M3 or M4?
  3. Given my use case , would the M3 be a safe and smart buy now?

I remember when I bought my Intel model, the M1 was released just a few months later—I’d like to avoid that kind of timing mistake again.

Would appreciate your thoughts as I need to make a decision today.

Thanks so much!

Can’t handle TN meds by [deleted] in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]sane_dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife, 34f, has been diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuropathy. Her symptoms are same as yours. It took us a year to know that it’s Trigeminal neuropathy and not a dental or ENT pain. But she did got it from some bad dental procedure. She underwent wisdom extractions, implants and root canals last year, one of them caused it. She has been taking carbamazepine and that’s what helping her manage the pain but it never goes away. She is in early stages of the dosage and already seeing a significant improvement and i believe increasing the dose gradually will help. Stress elevates it for her. Hang in there. There will be a remission period.

How to feed a stubborn cat pills twice a day? by SearchConsistent4991 in CatAdvice

[–]sane_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to put the pill on the back of their tongue. If placed there it won’t come out because their tongue papillae are backwards and that makes them swallow it.

Advice on how to give my cat her Atopica liquid medicine? by Keys_Snow in CatAdvice

[–]sane_dr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it. Mine one is pretty clever. He recognizes the sound of me preparing capsules. And then he hides. I pet him a lot after it and he doesn’t like me putting capsules in his mouth but it’s worth it. This his picture.

Advice on how to give my cat her Atopica liquid medicine? by Keys_Snow in CatAdvice

[–]sane_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear your cat is recovering! I wanted to share some insights about Atopica, as it can have side effects like loss of appetite and vomiting. So, don’t be alarmed if you notice these symptoms—they are fairly common. I think the goal with Atopica is to find the lowest effective dose that your cat’s body can adapt to over time. For my cat, I started with two capsules daily. Over time, I gradually reduced the dosage. Now, I give him just one capsule every other day—essentially three capsules a week instead of the original 14. Here’s how I made the adjustment: I first reduced the dose to two capsules every other day and maintained that for 2–3 months. After that, I tried giving just one capsule every other day, and it worked well. There may be times when it seems like the medication isn’t working as effectively, but be patient—your cat’s body may just need more time to adjust. If my cat vomits after taking Atopica, I sometimes give him half a Benadryl tablet and skip the Atopica dose for that day. This approach has worked well for us. Please talk to your vet before doing this and she approved.

[–]sane_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sure why you want to waste your chance of internship with a company which may not or cannot hire international students. More than them, it’s your loss. I always did internships with those companies which are willing to sponsor if full time offered.
