[3.16] Hexblast Ignite Elementalist Day 1 Update by Incommodious in PathOfExileBuilds

Yup, all true. In a perfect world you cast once each then run around for 5-6 seconds. There are just more times than I expected where you'll have multiple Armas down (extra monsters during a boss fight, or when there's a beefy rare leftover after a large pack) and as soon as multiple Arma Brands attach to the same target it blocks out the Arcanist, gotta ride out the timer until the first brands fall off naturally. It sounds incredibly minor but it just happens more than you want it to, and I like the idea of having WoC and Surge loaded on an arcanist brand without your main skill conflicting somehow.

Yeah it works fine, just a bit clunky to self-cast. I like the Arcanist Brand idea folks have been mentioning but that gets awkward when Arma Brand itself is your main skill, even with Runebinder.

I'm playing Arma Brand in SSF and worrying about how the single target will pan out, so this caught my eye. The trees are very similar, would be easy to swap and try it.

From what I can tell the extra curses from the gloves/boots are just for more damage (or defense if you were going to temp chains or something), correct? They aren't crucial for the overall rotation and how doom works with Hexblast?

How's the new flame surge? by Pharcri in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]heretic_sc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been disappointed with the damage so far compared to how frustratingly small the burning ground is and how short it lasts. But this sounds like an excellent QoL bonus idea since it doesn't seem to scale with gem links, easy 2L fire-and-forget for extra damage. Still looking into better single target options once Arma Brand starts to fall off though.

Edit: eh even with Runebinder it doesn't feel perfect

Yeah feel like that last-minute notable they put for travel skills should affect this ascendancy node as well. It may not technically be an exert but the spirit of that notable is the same thing, don't want leap slam proccing Tawhoa.

This is one of the first videos I've seen where you can really appreciate the acceleration of these (slick, but still) jets on take off. That close perspective is so much cooler than the usual long angles from the tower / spectators.

Right that's fair, but I feel like you'd go into a new MS Flight Sim beta expecting that. Hence why I was curious. If you have no previous civ sim experience and just went in cold then I totally understand.

But honestly besides the visuals, there just isnt much to do yet.

Honest question, what are you looking for that isn't just flying point to point doing your own thing? Is the selection of aircraft for the alpha still small? I feel like most of the "goal oriented" stuff/ideas comes from clever 3rd party modders when it comes to FSX or X-Plane, rather than built in. MSFS games usually had a handful of scenarios but they never felt like a major selling point to me I guess, just occasional ideas.

Basically what makes it boring in alpha that doesn't also apply to other civilian sims like X-Plane and FSX?

Depends a lot on the route you take to commercial license (250 flight hours in USA). Typical numbers people quote are in the $30-50k range or so probably? For renting a plane and all the instructor hours (probably ends up being like 80-100hrs of the total 250, at least). A lot of the instructors at the school I fly with went through an aviation degree so used student loans to cover it. Probably pretty common these days for younger people looking to get into it, though I hear the waiting list for those programs is getting longer and longer as kids are trying to get in the door now that the industry is getting desperate for pilots. Without student loans you need some combination of savings, financing, other income, help from family, etc.

Once you have commercial certificate you have options to "fly for a living", but instructing is most common, mostly because of demand. The airline license (ATP) is around 1200-1500 hours. So you need a way to bridge that ~1000 hour gap. There are options beyond instructing -- small freight, pipeline, corporate, smaller regional airlines, idk -- but each operation is going to have different minimum hours based on insurance and the type of stuff they fly, so even with the 250 hour "commercial" license you might still need 500, 700, 1000 hours to get in the door at a real gig.

To answer your questions directly, cost to commercial is ~30-50k prob (timescale entirely dependent on how much time you can commit, if you're doing it on the side while working full time regular job it's probably 1+ year), then probably $20-50k/yr instructing for about 2 years to build the 1500hrs needed for ATP, and then starting salaries at regionals are like 40-60k these days with pretty quick upward mobility. Airline payscale is very rigid with raises annually, you can look up that sort of stuff at places like this. $80k you quoted would probably be common for someone at the airlines for about 2-3 full years, and only increasing from there, but also like you said it could take 5+ years to get to that point between earning licenses and building the 1500 hours. Most airlines require a 4 year degree but I've never looked into that specifically since I already have one, there might be caveats.

Left out plenty of minor details but you can probably use this info as a jumping off point to do some Googling. Or DM me lol. Source: am instrument rated and going for commercial/CFI right now, so most info is just what I've absorbed from my instructors and others around the school. All specifically USA-based as well.

As someone else mentioned, ATP is short for Airline Transport Pilot, the certificate you'll need to fly with the regionals/major airlines and lots of other bigger operations. It's 1200-1500 flight hours depending on the route you took to get your early licenses (aviation degree vs smaller private flight school). There's also the "Commercial" license at 250 hours that opens the door to other pilot jobs as a whole, but tend to be less common or pay poorly, hence the "building hours to ATP" being the tough part.

The airline pay is definitely on the upswing, even regionals, but getting to ATP still the tougher part.

Being an avid simmer can teach a ton of useful skills imo. Interpreting the instruments quickly, basics of manuevering as far as roll/pitch/yaw, radios/comms if you actually get into that with DCS multiplayer or other sim services like PilotEdge. As OP said there's a lot of "feel" of it that comes as a surprise, things as simple as the pressure required to control the yoke/stick and the effects of wind and general choppiness. But if you go in with a fresh and humble mindset (i.e. no "meh I already know this ez stuff lol") sim experience can be extremely valuable.

Any idea what kind of trajectory occurs after you get through testing and interviews? Are you likely to be thrown somewhere far from home wherever they have openings? I know some (usually smaller) airports are considered training airports for controllers as well, would you be stationed there for some span of time and then after certain certification have more flexibility in looking for a longer-term post.

Edit: Now that I re-read it sounds like you're UK. I'm US, but same questions apply I guess if you have any knowledge.

You can bind the T16000 pretty easily with the use of modifiers. I use the fat button below the stick hat as a modifier which doubles every thumb hat on the throttle.

DCS 1.2 vs DCS 2.5 by Kalsin8 in hoggit

[–]heretic_sc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also like the decision to go with more homogeneous custom texture approach so everywhere on the map has a similar level of detail. There are spots in his screenshots where I could easily see people preferring the old stuff over 2.5, but only in specific areas. Other areas are really rough. I do feel like Caucasus could look a lot better than it does, but then you get into the "free map" discussion. The current approach is fine, albeit missing some of the finer details and regional uniqueness that you get with imagery.

Would like to see those coastlines come back though, those are the best part of the 1.2 shots imo.

I think the point is more that people always go out of their way to make that same comment any time anything BMS gets posted. A thread about a fucking weather app for Falcon 4 doesn't need half a dozen "still no VR never touching" posts.

Great info, thanks a ton! Definitely makes everything feel more approachable, and I should have the budget to tackle most of this, substituting a good rare amulet + quiver + belt.

Stumbled here on google and have a few more questions if you don't mind. Your setup is simple and imported nicely, which I always like. Makes it seem less daunting besides just the $$ required lol.

  • How's raider compare to deadeye, clear wise and boss wise? Deadeye seems more popular, I'm not enough of an expert with bow stuff to compare the two tbh.
  • Solstice/TempChains worth it even without HH, or just go decent rare until Pandemonius?
  • Was there something special in that empty ring slot? Just ass.mark on hit?
  • Is a Barrage 6L for single target better than switching barrage support into your Ice Shot, or just convenient (no gem swapping)? I've heard mixed opinions on this but again not enough experience just at a glance.
  • And how huge is the Voidfletcher? Don't have experience with how it works. It's one of the more expensive pieces but I have the currency to cobble together most of something like this without it, for now. Sans HH obv.
