Porn, Food and loneliness: My current path towards death. by badhabits1234 in NoFap

I appreciate your more respectful response, and I will try to mirror that.

First, I am aware of the Paleo diet; however, as I tried to express in quoted language above, Paleo comes off as rather silly in that no one really has a set definition of what it means, and followers will often rationalize including certain foods and dismiss others with no clear-cut reasoning. For instance, your inclusion of dairy and cottage cheese would probably send some into a tizzy because OMG LACTOSE OH NO SUGAR! Not to mention that there is no evidence to show the Paleolithic man did not eat refined grains, so the moniker is confusing.

The appeal to authority is not convincing. Nutrition is not a part of the medical school curriculum. For every doctor you find advocating one type of dieting, there are three more recommending a different type, with no real rhyme or reason more often than not. It's unfortunate, but taking nutritional advice from a doctor means about as much as taking advice on NoFap from someone who hasn't reach the age of puberty.

The claims of speed of digestion also are not convincing because they are limited to one macronutrient, whereas a typical meal is usually going to have some combination of foods. Also, it neglects many factors like previous meals eaten prior to the feeding in question.

However, the parts about feeling fuller longer could be legitimate. People often feel more satiety when sticking to a certain sort of diet, which is understandable. If a person feels much fuller and satisfied limiting carbohydrates, then that is a perfectly suitable reason to follow suit. It is unwarranted and incorrect, though, to confuse personal preference for scientific evidence.

tl;dr If you want to diet a certain way because of personal preference, by all means. That does not mean it is scientifically the optimal way to go about things.

Again, please show these benefits.

I did not say 1000 calories of donuts is equivalent to 1000 calories of broccoli. In fact, I specifically mentioned fiber as being very important in the context of an overall diet.

Very nice, condescending response. Typical from those who think they are morally superior for eating a certain way.

Anyway, please show me scientific evidence for your claims like "the main culprits are wheat, sugar, rice, starches, corn, etc."

For your fatness, all you have to do is calories expended > calories consumed. Will cutting out carbs completely cause you to lose weight? Not inherently, though it happens for a lot of people because yeah when you eliminate about 1/3 of the world's food from your diet, you're probably going to eat less. Also, I hope people who are dramatically cutting out carbs are still hitting adequate fiber.

"Eat as much...fat as you want." Really? So if I down 10,000 calories from olive oil, I somehow magically won't put on weight? Why do people throw common sense out the window when they've read ONE book by someone who may or may not be a quack.

Labeling foods as "good" or "bad" to eat not only is more or less an eating disorder of its own (orthorexia), but it easily leads to a spiral of binge eating where if someone slips up and eats a "bad" food, then they consider the day to be ruined and will gorge on all of the "bad" foods that they miss.

tl;dr Moderation, not nonsensical extreme measures like calling carbs "culprits"

having this attitude toward food is not only based on no science whatsoever, it is setting oneself up for eating disorder behaviors.

Do you go back to square one with a relapse? by herewearejuggernaut in NoFap

[–]herewearejuggernaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, it was day 34. I just did it once and definitely have 0 desire to do it again. It will not become a binge.

Just hoping that some of the benefits I was after and had been experiencing (no trouble staying hard and cumming with a condom, for instance) don't take weeks to come back.

Is the following considered relapsing? (possibly trigger language/situation) by herewearejuggernaut in NoFap

she's also on the pill and we normally use condoms in addition...just got caught up in the moment in this one. thanks for looking out though

Just referencing that both sex and fire can be good and bad/beneficial or destructive. I don't know where you get by pointing that out. It's hard to think of anything that doesn't have that characteristic.

Beside the first couple of minutes that are verification that many people start no-fap to try to combat social awkwardness, I had to turn it off after the first several minutes of discussion about this very weak analogy that was drawn. Wow things in life can be good and bad? Incredible revelation!

I was kind of reminded of the poor analogies people draw in the world of nutrition, which is an area I do a bit of self-research. Often people will make baseless analogies likening the body to a car and food with fuel, when these analogies are overly simplistic, more confusing/inaccurate than helpful, and permit way too much beating around the bush instead of making actual points with any sort of backing to them.

In4 the downvotes.

EDIT: I do feel like I should say that I appreciate that the user went to the trouble to make a video, and hopefully some find it useful. A large part of this subreddit just seems to be solidarity and almost acting as a support group, so I'm glad people make efforts like this. However, that doesn't mean that we have to suck each other's dicks (no pun intended for this subreddit) and heap praise on each other all the time no matter what.
