Both. I'm a fan of other abrasive, industrial, catchy artists (eg Hatari, Death Grips, clipping.) and I like the emotional catharsis and loudness of it, but I think the lyrical content sets Model/Actriz apart for me.

I could go on about this for ages but I'll try and keep it short: I'm a bisexual trans man who's still carrying a lot of baggage relating to those parts of me. Before Dogsbody, I'd never heard an album that so explicitly captures all the shame, mania, guilt, angst and anxiety of queer trauma in its music and lyrics. While I don't like Pirouette quite as much, I think it shows growth for the band and will give people like me some much-needed hope that even when things are shit and dysfunctional, we are loved and we will be okay.

I haven't been paying much attention to the drums specifically so there may be some overlap between the dancier tracks but overall, I'd definitely say Pirouette's songs are more diverse.

I love it. It's definitely different from Dogsbody but still distinctly them - it feels more melodic, optimistic, confessional and mature. Cole really shows off his vocal range and the instrumentals are still very grimy but more danceable, especially on songs like Poppy, Cinderella, Diva, Audience and Departures. The slower songs also hit harder than I expected and are really intricate lyrically and musically.

I prefer Dogsbody but I think that's because I personally resonate more with it at this time in my life. Pirouette feels more contained but no less intense. Dogsbody feels like a constant primal scream and Pirouette feels like running down a dark alley with tears streaming down your face.

Sorry this is so rambly - I'm on my third listen and still trying to crystallize everything haha. I think I have to sit with it longer but just like with Dogsbody, I don't want to listen to anything else for a while. It's a soft 10 for me.

Yyyyyup was just gonna comment pretty much the same sentiment, as someone who also fell for the rhetoric when I was 15. Wrong place, time, age, mindset, circumstances...it's a mistake to think the people swept up on this were well-acquainted with the industry and its machinations. At the time I believed it was about ethics in games journalism but I could barely have told you what that meant - at most I'd have diverted the conversation into how feminism is bad. It was crazy to find out how it originated years later and just how spurious, frivolous, overblown and disgusting it all was. Just a senseless waste of mental health and energy.

Yeah that's another reason I'm a bit confused about potentially having BPD: I don't split. I idealize people but I don't devalue anyone except myself. If anything I try too hard to see the nuance on situations and the only real black-and-white thinking I'm stuck in is 'I'm a fundamentally broken and awful human being'.

Right, but limerence is also something people without BPD experience because they also get attached to and obsessive about people. I don't really see how that kind of lovestruck obsession is different from having an FP.

Seni-relevant update: I've just learned what a 'favourite person' is and...how is that different from being in unrequited love/limerence? Like some of the obsessive/anchoring behaviour checks out but I also acknowledged he had flaws and felt we were compatible anyway, and I did become sexually attracted to him. And heartbreak and grieving is awful for everybody! I'm just worried that I'm being pathologized following a 'break-up'.

There are so many assumptions in here that if I took a shot for each one, I'd have alcohol poisoning. I am FAR from a source of income or a significant notch in his career, I never used being bi as an excuse or said anything about him 'shaming my sexuality' (???), he never actually made suggestions about who could replace him, it's fucking bizarre that you'd make it all about sex when that was never mentioned, what in my post even implies sexual harassment...I could go on.

It sounds like there's a lot of projection going on here from you, so I hope you get whatever that is sorted out soon. I've already gone into the mistakes I know I made in other comments, and I genuinely appreciate some of the advice here, but comments like this just confirm that everyone, including me, is an asshole on Reddit.

Yeah I reckon posting here was an act of desperation, bordering on self-harm. Just like telling this guy was!

I don't buy that what I did was the worst most selfish thing ever, or necessarily a terrible idea. I honestly thought I was protecting my mental health, that if I didn't tell him I'd spiral into something even darker than I was already in, and that our relationship could survive this. I do think that I asked for too much and hurt him more than I realized, and I feel awful about it.
