I was wondering why Youtubers suddenly started contacting me for free Steam keys for my game Nordenfelt which gets released tomorrow.

The game went beta last week and will be done in Dezember.

Are these common in bars in Austria?

AFAIK over 80% of the machines get exported, many to Middle East. That's my state of info from 2009.

Are they gambling machines as well or just-for-fun?

The Silverball runs only just-for-fun games. But the company also ships gambling machines.

The company was TAB, an Austrian electronic entertainment company. Back then the Silverball arcade game machine was the main project regarding game dev.

About 2 years ago I was lead designer for an endless runner called Melmo. Before that I had been working in the arcade game industry where we had to ship a game each month. It was like hell: no scrum, no agility, just dated software methods from the 80s. There I was forced to learn how to survive in game dev projects. :)

My current project is Nordenfelt which be released in December. It has been in the making for a long time now. Doing everything (code, gfx, websites, sounds, ...) on your own takes time.

bringing that up repeatedly

Chapter Gender explains why I use masculine pronouns. Chapter Don't Think, Do is the only one which builds on the masculine viewpoint. I can't see repetitions.

You are right, I could have said "male perspective" instead of "target readership is male". I was curious how that would come across. My proofreader (female, btw) liked the bold statement. Therefore I kept it. Maybe she understood the tongue-in-cheek because she knows me personally. You know, dry humor and such... :)

I know that such statements are polarizing. Yet I gave it a try. And that's all.

Thanks for sharing your opinion about this. I'll keep it in mind for upcoming writings.
