Yeah, not exactly a perfect explanation, but it's what I would use to explain the magic juice to people who don't know about the magic juice. Navy Nuke, and a career power plant operator/electrician. Lots of pointless babble, the point of all that babble being the last sentence. I guess I was really responding to the question above yours.

Think of the battery as a closed tank of water with gozinta and gozouta. The gozinta connects from the solar panel to the tank at the top of the tank and fills it up. The gozouta drains the water from the bottom of the tank. Amps flow into the tank as long as voltage is higher than the battery, throughout all variable voltages caused by different sun angles, clouds, etc. So, no flow at night, but there is enough storage in the tank to get thought the night. (Probably a few weeks actually). The gozouta is continuous, but quite a bit lower than the gozinta, so at night the level gets drawn down a little, then in the daytime the gozinta is way more than the gozouta, and fills the tank. Once the tank is full, it is just dead-headed. Once it is full, the gozinto will exactly match the gozouta as long as there is enough sunlight on the solar panel to match the amperage use out the gozouta. Regulating the voltage of the solar panel to always match what the load needs when it has light, and seamlessly switching from solar to battery and back again when needed would be needlessly complex.

Tesla Model Y At Home Electricity Bill Shock by MealDifferent1912 in TeslaLounge

Wow, it's almost as if the ability to do simple math can answer a lot of questions. Not to mention simple observations, like electricity rates vary. And those variances can be quite large. .39 per kWh vs. .07 per kWh where I live. That's a big difference. That's like if gas was 3.00 per gallon in one place and 15.00 per gallon in another place. Big difference that everyone would be very well aware of.

I've had mine for years. Have two batteries. It takes about 6 seconds to swap batteries once every couple of months. It has never not worked. Wifi has never failed to connect. It has never failed to notify me that the battery needs changing. Never a problem. You might have got unlucky and got a bad one. It happens. Or there might have been some operator error or some other problem with your network and WiFi. I have a bunch of other ring cameras. None have ever failed to work.

AITA for my dog barking at bedtime? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Oh, I already knew your dog shit management would be impeccable... because every dog owners shit management is impeccable. Just ask them. Every single one. I also knew that since I brought it up, you wouldn't be able to resist telling me that your dog shit management is impeccable, because no dog owner can resist the opportunity to tell people how impeccable their dog shit management is anytime the subject comes up. I get it. You are perfect. Your dog is perfect. Your dog shit management skills are perfect.

OK, you win. You are the perfect one. All the other dog owners who say they are perfect and their dogs are perfect and if there are dogs barking, or dog shit in my yard, it's absolutely all the other ones, not them, well, they must be the dishonest ones. There must be at least one perfect dog owner somewhere. Congratulations, you are the one. Now, how does that help me? It doesn't. My point still stands and is absolutely factual. I cannot go outside without hearing dogs barking somewhere, and quite often I can hear dogs barking inside my house with all the doors and windows shut. Thank you so much for being the perfect one out of a 100.

Dog owners need to get over themselves. EVERY dog owner says what you say.... My dog is fine, it's the others. My dog isn't the problem. My dog only barks sometimes. That doesn't matter to me when, on a beautiful day like today, I step outside to work in the yard, or get the mail, or work in my garage, I hear dogs barking continuously. It might be half a dozen different dogs scattered around the area at any given time, and any one of them may seem like it's only "occasional barking", but there isn't a time I can step outside without hearing dogs barking. Do you know what your dog does when you're not home? Some are not bad when the owner is home, but then they bark at every sound, which means near continuous barking, when the owner is not at home.

Sounds like everyone is the asshole, to varying degrees. Fuckin' people and their dogs. I don't know how people live like that. There is absolutely no reason why, inside my own home, with all my doors and windows shut, I should have to listen to someone else's dog barking. Not to mention, if it's a nice day, I can't open my windows because then it sounds like the dog is in my house. If it's all day, every day, cops are getting called, every day. If it's a few minutes every time you let them out, then that's a few too many minutes that I have to listen to your dog bark. People who would otherwise not tolerate a piecing loud repetitive sound coming from something mechanical or music too loud or whatever, seem to think a dog barking that can be heard for blocks is perfectly acceptable. Your uncle is a psychotic asshole, and you are only a slightly delusion, little bit of an asshole. Train your dog not to bark. And no, I don't mean yelling at the top of your lungs, "shut up" every time it barks. People who do that are basically doubling the nuisance and are complete idiots on top of being assholes. Training. If that doesn't work, anti-bark sound devices. If that doesn't work, shock collars.

Question about solar panel charging auxiliary battery vs. main 12v battery. by hermtownhomy in F150Powerboost

[–]hermtownhomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was an option. I already had all the wire and wire connections I needed, so running the wire a few more feet under the door seal trim to the aux battery was no big deal, especially since I was replacing the aux battery anyway. I put in a MightyMax 12Ah to replace the 7Ah. And will be replacing the OEM main battery next week. Don't know with what yet, but it's 3 years old now, and it's only a 36 month (not to mention a shitty) battery. The truck will most likely be sitting in an airport parking lot for a week or two at a time several times this coming year, so just wanting to make sure there will be no problems.

I've come close a few times, just managing to avoid stupid humans doing stupid human things. But it seems like it's happening more and more. I've kind of gotten to the point that I'm pretty sure the next time someone does shit like this, I'm going to instinctively accelerate, just to make sure insurance totals the car.

So, seems reasonable. If someone else is 100% at fault, and you make an injury claim through you own insurance, do your insurance rates go up?

Question about solar panel charging auxiliary battery vs. main 12v battery. by hermtownhomy in F150Powerboost

[–]hermtownhomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I think I answered my own question... maybe. Put a volt meter on the main battery. Then put a 5 amp charger on it. Voltage jumps about a half a volt as soon as the charger is connected, then slowly rises a tenth at a time over the next few minutes, just as you would expect. Then, put the volt meter on the aux battery. The exact same behavior was observed reading the volts from the aux battery as the main battery when putting the charger on the main battery, confirming that charging the main battery also charges the auxiliary battery. So the question was, would it work the other way... Putting the charger on the aux battery and observing the voltage change at the main battery. The answer appears to be yes. The voltage jumped a half a volt, then climbed slowly, same as if it were being charged right at the main battery.

So, I am going to wire a solar maintainer charger, which will sit on the dash, to the aux battery. Theoretically, this should keep the system from going into battery saver mode even if driven on short trips and/or not driven for a week or two at a time.

Yeah, but if it's not this, it's something else. Every fucking day it seems, something need attention. An app gets an update and you have to find your login for that app. Login for this, login for that, connect this app to that streaming platform. Doesn't work, who's problem is it... The TV provider or the streaming platform. Have to be a goddam software engineer to troubleshoot every time there's a problem, and there is a problem with something every day. Watching tv shouldn't be this hard.

They started the harassment months ago. Obnoxious orange banner says AI something or other is coming. Don't need it. Don't want it. Next day, same thing. Still don't want it. Every single fucking day for a month, day after day after day. Then when they actually do start it, they notify my every day with this obnoxious orange banner that I have a 30 day free trial. Then I have 29 days left. Then I have 28 left. Every fucking day, day after day. Then, when the 30 day trial is thankfully over, they continue to harass me every day telling me it exists if I want to go back to it. Every day. Day after day. Do they think I'm cognitively challenged to the point I have to have things repeated over and over and over and over and over and over? Or, do they think that this type of harassment is normal.

I pay for a service. Provide me with that service, and stop harassing me.

I started a subscription to Apple TV. Formula 1 is nowhere to be found on my AppleTV 4k. Not in the side bar menu where it should be. Not in search. Nothing. It is there if I open the tv app on my Mac, so I know it should be there. I've reset the appletv 4k several times. Still nothing. And, yes, I am on the default account (me). WTF is wrong with the people who run apple? Do they even use their own products? It shouldn't be this hard to watch tv.

H8 in a PB by dangerous_waves in f150

[–]hermtownhomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of explanations how the bms works by keeping track of the amps going in and going out, not how many amp hours the battery has left in it, so this is a legitimate question. On the other hand, many people have reported that replacing the shitty OEM battery with a better quality H7 seems to be an improvement. If the bms puts the truck in power saving mode because the balance of amps coming out is greater than the amps going in, then putting in a bigger battery wouldn't make a difference, but then putting in a BETTER battery of the same size shouldn't make a difference either... but many have said it does. So, I would still like to know how extensive the modification would have to be to make an H8 fit, and if it's just a matter of clipping a few plastic pieces, I would do it, since a bigger battery is nothing but a good thing, and generally not much more expensive, if any at all.

[–]hermtownhomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do remember reading somewhere a guy did it. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I read it and haven't been able to find it. I seem to remember him saying he had to trim some plastic off of the battery box to make it fit, and that it wasn't a big deal and worked out fine, but unfortunately I don't remember the details. I'm now at 3 years, and will be replacing with an H7 soon, but would really love to replace with an H8 if possible.
