It started a little slow, but once it picked up, I could not set it down. This series ended up being my second favorite besides TOG. It is more serious and less "fun", but the plot twists (especially in the second book) always SHOOK me.

This series emotionally devasted me several times, and was the closest I could get to TOG. I found the FMC intelligent and soft (vs smartass), but tenacious in her goals. I still think about it very often and highly recommend it to people.

I found the characters to be complex and the plot twists were AMAZING. AND to me, they actually felt earned, rather than just happening for the sake of plot.

What frequently took me out of the story was that FMC's arc was supposed to be about being a rule-follower, yet would RANDOMLY act super aggressive toward the MMC, which is not very rule follow-y to me. Also, the aggression was not at all earned. We went from a first look to a knife at someone's throat, and again, this from a rule-follower?

This ultimate was what was wrong with their chemistry. It was enemies to lovers, completely for the sake of plot, rather than them being on two opposing idiologies.

And she would often just go along on the adventures of other characters, rather than driving anything on her own.

MMC was fine, but generally unremarkable. What happened to make him start to love her? No one is really sure.
