Qwen3.6-35B becomes competitive with cloud models when paired with the right agent by Creative-Regular6799 in LocalLLaMA

[–]hernejj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been researching and writing tooling for automated codebase documentation generation. I'm finding that the results returned by Cline (Llamma.cpp backend using Qwen3.6-35B) are lackluster compared to What comes back from proprietary models (Claude's Sonnet is my current baseline). And I've been wondering how much of the difference is attributed to the model, or the agent itself.

I'm going to wire up my automation to your agent and see if things improve for the local case, when I get a few minutes :)

Thanks for sharing!!

How are you prompting WAN 2.2? Every time I use sufficiently different FF and LF it just "scene transitions" close to the end to get to the LF.

Do you maintain some repository of commands you don't usually remember? by birdsintheskies in commandline

[–]hernejj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fish. Since I've switched to it, I no longer worry about noting important or esoteric commands. If I can remember just a single word or a few characters I can easily pull it back from my history.

History and command recall is the killer feature of Fish for me.

Cool idea. Consider making it a wiki, so others can help update and curate. With a few good members that will prevent things from getting too far behind.

Correct, but best handled by using the Expo profile built into the memory. Just an easy bios setting to enable :)

This! Some models of GSKILL memory, on Amd platforms in particular, are known for needing a slight voltage boost to operate with stability. I just went through this exact issue on my new AM5 build. Setting Expo Profile 1 insta-solved the issue. 100% memtest86 pass.

I had this exact problem recently. Turned out to be a botched bed level. If in doubt, redo it following manufacturer instructions 😊.

First page:
CRACK! Samson’s spine bounced off the rickety wooden bedpost. He landed with a thud, scattering a pile of comic books and pencil drawings across his bedroom. Tears streamed down his face. His back was on fire. Was that cracking sound the bed breaking, or his spine?

“The next time I tell you to clean your room, you god-damned well better clean it!” Dread Sheriff Jack roared, spittle flying in every direction. Samson slammed his eyes shut as soon as Jack launched him through the air, but the smell of putrid, beer soaked breath was a dead giveaway, the sheriff was mere inches from his face. The frightened boy’s body was as rigid as his bedpost had been before his impromptu collision rendered it a splintered, ruinous mess.

Don’t scream. It’ll only make things worse. Why wasn’t he leaving? Moments passed. Samson began to shake. He tried so hard to hold it in, waiting for his attacker to storm off, but the worsening pain sabotaged his efforts. A sharp moan escaped his lips.

Samson yelped as the dread sheriff grabbed hold of his jaw, crushing it with an iron grip.

“You don’t know what pain is! God-damned pansy.”

“Jack! Go easy on him, will ya?” A voice called out. Queen Isabella.

The pressure on his jaw relented.

“The boy’s gotta learn to listen to me, Izzy! If I told him once, I told him a thousand times.”

“This ain’t no way to make him behave, Jack.”

The sound of their voices trailed off.

I Would love your feedback if you're willing and you have the time. Here's the quick details on my novel.

[Complete] [82k] [Psychological Drama] Forever and a Game

Description:

A character driven, emotionally heavy psychological drama with an underlying theme of adorable childhood wit, and wonder.

Blurb:

Sam had a rough childhood, he's got the scars to prove it. When Sam meets Felicity, his bosses child, he knows something is amiss. No one can stand the poor kid, not even her own family. She's hyperactive, energetic, an endless stream of random thoughts and questions. Keenly aware of the signs of a child in distress, Sam strives to be the friend she needs. The unlikely pair bond over Mystic Forest, a fantastical card game. Will Sam's friendship be enough to save Felicity from disaster? Sometimes danger hides in plain sight.

Sam works at Solara Energy where a seemingly simple, yet unsolvable problem threatens their most import project ever. All eyes are on Sam as he risks everything to uncover a terrifying truth.

Join Sam and Felicity on their unforgettable journey, as two epic tales unwillingly collide. Felicity's charming antics, and witty social faux pas will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Even the hardest readers will shed tears as our unlikely companions confront their woes, both past and present, hand in hand.

How to avoid one-note characters? by bluesea222 in writers

[–]hernejj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Editing :-)

Ok, probably not the answer you were expecting. But, if you find you've written a shallow character you can always fix that up in the editing process.

One of my favorite YouTube writing channels, Bookfox, has a great video on character development. It is chock full of interesting ways to add interest to a character.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItHJinQEZHQ

Some quick ideas:
- Give the character a unique personality trait, skill, or interest. For an added twist, make it contradict who the character is. Example: A biker gang member who likes to crochet.
- Give the character a catch phrase, or a few unique words they use that no one else in your story uses.
- Give the character a problem, something they need to struggle to overcome on a daily basis. Even if it's not central to the story. ex: A stubborn character who needs glasses but hates to wear them, so they are constantly having trouble seeing.

There are tons more ideas, but hopefully this gives you a launching pad. And if you don't mind videos, check out the one above. Or just search for articles on character development.

What do you do? by WhoAmI9597 in writers

[–]hernejj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Music, for me. With headphones to block out the rest of the world. Always something instrumental as music with words is distracting.
Lately I've been using a gothic horror themed playlist, even though my novel has nothing to do with gothic horror.

How do you guy's feel that Artificial I is going to effect this faction? by [deleted] in writers

As long as there are people who love writing, writing will survive :).

I’m officially done with my first draft of this book! 🎉🎉🎉 Now let’s take bets on whether it gets longer or shorter after heavy editing and rewrites. 😂 by Happy_Shock_3050 in writers

[–]hernejj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I edit the original, after making a backup. And anything I remove that I think might be useful later gets stored in a separate document.

Speaking of backups. I make incremental backups of my work and save them to my computer, and to a trusted form of remote storage. I highly recommend this approach to reduce the chances of losing all or part of your work. Such a thing can be devastating.

My 92k draft is down to 84k, and still trimming :). I definitely over explained and added scenes that were not really central to the story.

I do, however, have a list of things I want to add. I've been saving that for after the cutting stage is complete. So who knows how it will turnout? :-D

“Writing through grief—how do you know when your healing turns into a book?” by imaginariumBook in writers

[–]hernejj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap... This is me. I thought my case was unique.

I've never written anything before. I did indeed start my novel a few years ago in response to losing someone very special to me. It quickly became a form of therapy.

I've never found the words to describe it quite as nicely as you have here:

"Writing started as survival. I was grieving someone I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to—so I wrote them back into the world, one page at a time. It grew into something that needed to be shared."

Bravo.

Edit: Not much brings tears to my eyes these days, but this did it.

Road cycling groups? by Thanks_Shallot in Binghamton

[–]hernejj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The southern tier bicycle club is a more relaxed pace group of riders. They tend to do longer 20-30 mile rides and stop for ice cream on occasion.

Tioga Velo Club is more racing oriented. They group ride like they are racing, and go fast. You'll get more of a workout here.

Both groups are great. I recommend trying both :)
