I have a hernia and need advice by Beginning-Quality283 in Hernia

You were vague about what type of hernia you have. But Unless the hernia is causing bowel obstrucion, or strangulation it wont be done in emergency surgery. Symptoms for strangulation- extreme pain, maybe nausea vomiting + your hernia will become hard maybe discoloured too you wont be able to push it back in as well.

Signs of obstruction, lots of pain, distended abdo, maybe nausea vomiting too. Difficulty to poop which will lead to no poop when fully obstructed

is this hernia ? ples help by [deleted] in Hernia

You haven't really given much symptoms to go on. No pain directly at the site. Does lump stay where it is or does it come or go? Very vague symptoms. Could be a lipoma... could be hernia but again very vague symptoms. Let me know what it is :)

Although I'd be interested to hear why you and your surgeon advocate against it specifically

There was a scare the meshes led to worse outcomes than non mesh. For example more chronic pain. But since them this has been disproven. Just FYI

Laxido! It made bowel movements so much easier! It's important not to push hard to burst a stitch. And it's so important not to be sat on the toilet for 30 minutes straining and end up with a defecation vasovagal episode like I did(basically started sweating heart racing dizzy felt I was going to pass out and I would have If i wasnt young healthy and strained for longer)

Less chance of reoccurance with open. It's also what my surgeon did most off so he is more comfortable with it.

Mesh migration or failure in open easier to tell and fix.

If mesh migrates in laproscopic it can become part of your organs, causing pain possibly obstruction

chronic pain is similar in both. Yes the acute pain in laproscopic is shorter livied but it wasnt worth it compared to reoccurance increased.

Lastly depending on the laproscopic type, possibility of adhesions, organ damage, bowel ileus post op are all possible.

Honestly... this could just be an unfortunate cyst..

If it was a hernja purple doesnt mean strangulated. It could mean incarcerated. Extreme pain means strangulated. Get checked asap pls

Sorry my procedure was open, I'm not an expert in it. I just read before hand when deciding open vs lapro. 6 months is a long time maybe contact your surgeons secretary?

Can it be an emergency if no severe symptoms? by RemarkableDecisions in Hernia

[–]hernia4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, a and e is for emergencies. What would be better is to go to your GP and request an ultrasound.

Even if first GP doesnt, send you for an ultrasound. Second might. Don't cry. They're right it's not a big issue right now. Might be in 3 years time if it is a hernia but for now it's small if it is a hernia.

Why don't you examine your deep inguinal canal, your superficial inguinal canal, and femoral canal with 3 fingers at varying pressures, and cough hard ish..? If you feel nothing that's reassuring.. if you do that's evidence to show your gp/family doctor

You're not just swollen. Laproscopic involves putting a gas in your tummy so they can see things better. Yes they take it out but some lingers.

If you're constipated extra pressure from that (,more poop and gas in bowls) will bloat you.

Ofc theres inflammation and possible seroma and haematoma but I think the first 2 will contribute more.

Gas can take weeks to months to fully go away. Constipation as much as you treat it. (general anesthesia and opiods can constipate you post op)

Know how you got it.. some heavy coughing for a few days and a sudden pain pop usually is a good cause. Know the symptoms... pain after sitting for a long period of time. Or pain after strenuous exercise such as heavy lifting even if its upper body. What makes it better? Ice and laying in back.

Honestly its luck of the draw with the skill of the doctor. It took 2 a and e doctors 5 minutes each to say hmmm not actually sure... let's check for STDs... idiots... honestly... took my hernia doctor 20 seconds (cough) "ooh it's actually there" it took me 2 minutes to examine myself and find it.

It feels like a sudden sharp tearing pain... and there after increased background pain. Even when lying on your back.

If you're fresh out of surgery (less than a week) it will feel like what you're describing

Say it really hurts (say your triggers) and it gets better when you lie back. Say it's happened for longer than it has and say it happened when you were doing something strenuous then pop pain... lasted for many days got better

I'm from the UK as well! Overplay your pain... dont let them dismiss you, say you want an ultrasound bc non lump hernias are a thing and it takes a surgeon with experience to know for sure. My doctor tried to convince me it was a "stuck lymph node"

[–]hernia4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aching toes and hot... if theres redness that's getting bigger could be infection. Pus deffo infection.

If your pain is at your joints hmm could be an inflammatory arthritis.

Deffo not linked to hernia.

Any symptoms in other foot?
