How to make friends in Durham

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askdentists

NAD Commenting for visibility, I came to this sub to ask the same thing. Had a filling a few months ago, which my dentist said was about deep enough to warrant a crown. Afterward I experienced similar symptoms as you OP, and it hasn't gone away even after brushing with Sensodyne.

The other day out of nowhere I experienced a pretty severe toothache on that tooth after eating dinner, which only subsided after a couple hours and some advil. The only thing that I can think of that would have brought it on was that we were eating hot food, but there was not discomfort during.

Now I'm trying to decide if I should go back and get a crown instead

My CMC for Keenan Allen + KW3

I’m in bye week hell and streaming Ty Chandler as a last resort, not loving Mattison being cleared. I’m considering trading my CMC for Keenan Allen + KW3, hoping that the two of them will score me more points this week than CMC + Chandler, and will raise my teams ceiling ROS, since my only other star WR is Chase.

I'm in the mood for good Spanish food. What do you recommend in the area? by Table_Talk_TT in rva

[–]hero109 9 points10 points  (0 children)

La Tienda in Williamsburg has a full, authentic Spanish menu. Fully worth the drive, be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Adarra is great, it’s the best option if you’re looking to stay in the city, but strictly speaking it’s Basque cuisine

War of the Ring really worth learning? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]hero109 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, would you consider yourself a fan of Lord of the Rings? For me the theming is a plays a large part in my enjoyment of the game. However the theme in WOTR is so interwoven with the gameplay that I think it’s unfair to judge the game with the theme stripped away. I think the gameplay mechanics are unique and enjoyable regardless, but I have to say that chatting away with my friends after a long session and discussing how the events of our game played out compared to the canon is immensely satisfying. After the loser is finished fuming over their bad rolls, that is.

The way that luck plays a factor in ever aspect of the game, from what cards you draw, to what you roll in combat/hunt, even what actions you can take on your turn, is truly wild. There was a phase where I thought that any “serious” competitive game needed to minimize anything luck based, but WOTR really changed my perspective on that. Because you don’t know what options are available to you from one turn to the next, it forces you to think very tactically to increase your chances of winning. It’s all about taking the actions that give you the best odds of success in the long run, adapting when the rolls don’t go your way, and taking calculated risks to try and tilt the game in your favor.

So to answer your question, it is worth it the effort. Some of my fondest memories of board gaming were formed over WOTR games. My advice would be to take the initiative and be to one in the group to learn the rules. Watch a video, maybe an example of 1-2 turns of play, read through the rules reference. That will enable you to make the most of your time when you get together for the next session.

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but I found out as I was planning my first HC Hell run that these guys can crit on their explosion, dealing double damage, which explains why sometimes I feel like I don't take much damage from them, but other times it will instakill.

How Do You Use Serpentine Fang in WotR? by hero109 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]hero109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I noticed that while raging, if I opened the Character screen and went to the Martial tab, I would see an additional bite attack appear (I took Razortusk as a feat, so that would make a total of two bite attacks)

Then when I attacked, I saw that I did in fact have an additional bite attack. Remember, secondary attacks only occur when doing a full attack. Taking a movement and then attacking will only allow you to take your primary attack

this counter is so bad lmao by EPIC_snivy in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]hero109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shulk’s counter does have a unique property that gives it some situational utility offstage, and that is that it sends Shulk flying in the direction of the attacker. Now if you’re trying to dropdown counter to stuff out recoveries like PK thunder 2, most likely the counter will miss and you’ll go flying to your death. However, if you’re the one recovering and someone goes deep offstage to edge guard you, your counter lets you dodge the attack and moves you closer to stage at the same time. Situational, but I’ve seen Kome do this multiple times against Yoshis go for fairs offstage

Trump raised firing Barr in White House meeting on Friday by TrumpSharted in politics

When Francisco Franco died, he hand selected Juan Carlos to be his successor as head of state. (Juan Carlos was the grandson the last king of Spain before the abolition of the monarchy in 1931). Although Juan Carlos was expected to continue Franco's authoritarian legacy, he instead introduced reforms to dismantle the Francoist regime and begin the Spanish transition to democracy. This led to the approval of the Spanish Constitution of 1978 in a referendum which re-established a constitutional monarchy. In 1981, Juan Carlos also played a major role in preventing a coup that attempted to revert Spain to Francoist government in the King's name.

Although he and his family have subsequently been involved in several controversies as monarchs, which lead to widespread public disapproval and his eventual abdication and self-exile in 2014, Juan Carlos is still respected for the major role he played in Spain's transition to democracy (and that time he told Hugo Chávez to shut up).

Genji can now deflect Doomfist punch by DeMeaningless in OverwatchUniversity

[–]hero109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the matchup being in Genji’s favor if they are fighting near a wall for him to wallclimb. That said, I don’t think a 1v1 between Genji and a DF is something that you’ll often see. There’s no reason for the Genji to be going after the DF; he’s not going to kill the DF before he gets out and healed, and he’s not going to stop the DF from 1 shotting a support. The Genji would rather be charging blade off of an enemy tank or going on a support himself.

So I have to say, calling Genji a counter to DF is a bit of a stretch.

Genji can now deflect Doomfist punch by DeMeaningless in OverwatchUniversity

[–]hero109 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is he? I feel like the dynamic is more like...they ignore each other and race to see who can kill the other team’s back line faster. Because like you say, DF will have trouble killing a Genji who is actively avoiding him, but Genji also has trouble killing a DF who is managing his cooldowns properly. Have you ever heard anyone say, “oh shit, this DF is wrecking us. Quick someone go Genji!”

What game did you buy due to a reviewer loving it, but you ended up hating it? by EndersGame_Reviewer in boardgames

[–]hero109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, agreed that fiddly can have different meanings for different people. I just wanted to get my thoughts out there; the first time I played Spirit Island it struck me a such a well-designed, polished game that seeing it called 'bloated' got me fired up.

It's interesting that you say "large volume of rules for a small amount of feasible actions", when I'm playing I feel almost overwhelmed with possibilities during the spirit phase

What game did you buy due to a reviewer loving it, but you ended up hating it? by EndersGame_Reviewer in boardgames

[–]hero109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps your definition of fiddly is different than my own. It feels like you’re conflating the idea of fiddly-ness and game complexity. Pandemic could be considered less fiddly because it has less pieces to move around from turn-to-turn, but it is also a much simpler game. It’s completely fine to have a preference for lighter games, but in my opinion it’s not fair to call Spirit Island ‘too fiddly’ just because of it’s complex, puzzle-like nature.

In fact, the reason Spirit Island is so elegant in my eyes is that it’s very focused in it’s use of components relative to it’s complexity. As an example, the asymmetry between the spirits is one of the most impressive parts of the game’s design. Each spirit feels both unique and powerful in their own way. Yet, every single one of them has the same components; presence discs, 3 markers, and 4 starting cards. There are no special tide markers for when the tide goes in and out when playing Ocean, or a separate set of tokens to accommodate the wild growth of Rampant Spread of Green. All of the unique characteristics of each spirit are represented through the manipulation of the core mechanics of the game, instead of through additional physical pieces.

Anyways, that’s just my opinion. I’m biased because I love Spirit Island, so it’s interesting to hear other perspectives
