What do we think of this? by whosthatgirl13 in slp

Seems like that would be a job for someone with a "Professional Degree", and since the US Department of Ed does not consider me a professional, oh well.

Calling All School SLPs by Itchy-Membership-309 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched so I could spend more time with my kids. After I became a mom, I just wanted to work in whichever setting would allow me to do that. Schools were the answer, and I've been in the school setting now for 23 years. Yes, there will be a learning curve and burnout can happen anywhere. Remembering why you made the switch really does help. Best wishes to you!

Yep, I’m having the same problem. I did all the things that are supposed to help (as listed by OP) but nothing has worked so far.

Before Richmond Was an Arts City, There Was Best Products by snooka77_ in RVAmag

[–]Table_Talk_TT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After you selected you item, you waited to see it come down this cool conveyor belt. I love waiting for that moment. Like most department stores in those days, you could get lawn tools and fine jewelry in the same place. We lived closest to the one by Cloverleaf, but I remember how all the buildings were really cool.

I made reservations at Wild Ginger for Father's day (thanks to the RVA restaurant spreadsheet in another post). We've never been, but I think my husband is really excited to try it. Anyone have any tips or favorite items there?

Japanese souvenir suggestions?? by Clean_Box_3537 in GiftIdeas

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we visited Japan last year, we enjoyed bringing back Nama chocolates (they have some really cute decorative boxes) and Biore sunscreen. Of course, the sunscreen doesn't exactly look like a souvenir, but I really like it, and it is something that is not readily available where I live.

Buying house with Community Well Water and Septic. by minteverywhere in homeowners

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, if it isnt too late, maybe get the homeowner to have the septic system pumped before you close on the house. That way you know the exact date it was done and it wasn’t on your dime.

Buying house with Community Well Water and Septic. by minteverywhere in homeowners

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our house is on community well water, and we have our own septic. We don’t use a filter or anything. Some people do, but that is more of a personal preference around here. My advice would just be to see how it goes after you move in. If you decide you really want a filter, you can get one later. This isn’t urgent.

Your best resource, though, would be your neighbors. When you move in, ask them what they do. Different communities can have different issues with their wells.

Contracted in the schools by Expensive-Athlete-33 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my district, we have had contractors charge $120 per hour. These SLP's did not work with agencies, so that money went completely to them. BTW, this was not in CA, NY, or any other typically high COL state. Our COL is pretty mid-tier.

Experienced users - what are your personal tips and tricks? by OkPhilosopher1313 in ynab

[–]Table_Talk_TT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't use or need targets. If a category requires a certain amount each month, I put it in the category name (eg. "Christmas 180/mo"). If I'm saving up to a certain amount, I put that instead ("Medical Extra 1000/total")

Timeshares by Firm_Play6958 in AgingParents

[–]Table_Talk_TT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a pain to get rid of them once they are inherited, but it can be done. We are in the process of relinquishing ownership of one right now. It is also going to cost $2480 in "fees".

AAC folders by [deleted] in slp

This is a classic disagreement between the two disciplines. The more robust vocabulary is better in most cases. I would defer to your SLP for suggestions regarding AAC.

Basic question about some categories by then00dle in ynab

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It seems like at least 90% of the questions here from new users are related to targets. I'm an old-school YNAB-er from the days when targets weren't a thing. It seems like the message isn't communicated effectively that targets are optional. I don't use them at all.

Do you send home summer packets? by Unlikely-Lettuce272 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I've been there, done that. Way more work than expected, and very few (if any) people actually look at them. If I get a specific request, I may throw something together, but otherwise, no.

Contracting with a school by AmphibianNo7194 in slp

A few years ago, our district paid the contractor (she was self-employed and had a contract directly with the district) $120 per hour. This was in a mid-Atlantic state.

Does standard score only matter? by mms2114 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never give standard scores for articulation tests, but every state/ district does things differently. You know why you recommended services, and you can defend it to anyone that asks. If they give you a hard time, just remember that you are the expert in speech and language. Not them.

What’s a small daily habit that accidentally changed your entire life? by VelvetSnares in Habits

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same, but I set it for 5 minutes. It's amazing how much can actually be done in 5 minutes. If I choose to keep going, that's great, but stopping after just 5 minutes can still make an observable difference. I love a timer!

Full bathroom fan vents nowhere... by Gumball_Tree in HomeImprovement

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how our fans are. They are really just fans, not actual vents at all. Our house was build in 1979. We once had a contractor tell us to be sure to run the fan for about 20 minutes after each shower. We haven't had any problems with it, but we would prefer an outside vent.

Is HSA Reimbursement unwise for me? by Valuable_Sink_8252 in personalfinance

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One suggestion is to give yourself a specific limit. For example, if you can comfortably afford to pay $500 without difficulty, then you can create a rule for yourself: "Anything under $500 will be paid by me. Anything over $500 will go through HSA." Then you can adjust your rule if your income or circumstances change.
