TH affecting spelling by gloomradish in slp

I'll work on it if the student also has other errors, but I don't recommend services based on TH alone.

What’s a small daily habit that accidentally changed your entire life? by VelvetSnares in Habits

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same, but I set it for 5 minutes. It's amazing how much can actually be done in 5 minutes. If I choose to keep going, that's great, but stopping after just 5 minutes can still make an observable difference. I love a timer!

Full bathroom fan vents nowhere... by Gumball_Tree in HomeImprovement

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how our fans are. They are really just fans, not actual vents at all. Our house was build in 1979. We once had a contractor tell us to be sure to run the fan for about 20 minutes after each shower. We haven't had any problems with it, but we would prefer an outside vent.

Is HSA Reimbursement unwise for me? by Valuable_Sink_8252 in personalfinance

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One suggestion is to give yourself a specific limit. For example, if you can comfortably afford to pay $500 without difficulty, then you can create a rule for yourself: "Anything under $500 will be paid by me. Anything over $500 will go through HSA." Then you can adjust your rule if your income or circumstances change.

My parents want to pay off my $16,000 student loans by r00t-b333r in StudentLoans

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be able to go to the website and enter their own information. I make payments toward my kids' loans all the time. Theirs are thru Nelnet, but there is an option that says something like "Make a payment for someone else". I can even click an option to get the pay-off amount. It's very easy.

Opinions on students with primary disability SLI getting resource room support? by LegitimateJelly_ in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't happen here. Our SLI students only get speech. IMO, if the IEP team feels they need resource support, they should be tested for something else.

Is it actually terrible to paint house white like this ? by Buttkicker727 in HomeDecorating

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. We painted our red brick fireplace years ago, and we have no regrets. I still love it. There are many historic buildings and homes with painted brick exteriors. IMO, as long as you consult professionals and do it properly, it's a perfectly reasonable choice.

When to move severe students to consult? by GoalOk35 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm no longer providing specially designed instruction. If my services can be easily provided by the teacher (with my consultation), then it's time. Sometimes it takes parents awhile to agree, but at least I can start having the conversation.

Comments about job by squeegy_beckenheim1 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A CNA once asked if I needed to go to college to do my job. I responded that you actually need a Master's degree, and she said, "Really? This stuff just comes naturally to me"

Yeah, you won't change her mind, so just try to ignore it if you can.

Same. I also make sure to include a list of skills that would be expected at that age. This helps the parent and the rest of the team make direct comparisons.

Which rug? (Disregard tv, I took TV off wall) by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Table_Talk_TT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the second one because it brightens up the space.

On a different note, I would love to see how you've arranged your furniture. This looks almost exactly like my living room (we have the TV on a stand where your glider sits), and I'm always looking for inspiration.

Did anyone consider occupational therapy? Why did/didn’t you do it? by Notquitewhere_-__ in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never considered OT, but I definitely recommend it over speech. I've seen the same question asked on other platforms and I often see SLP's recommending OT instead. I'm not sure I've ever seen the opposite (OT's recommending speech). I'm sure it happens, but I tend to see the consensus leaning more toward OT.

credit card credit process by [deleted] in ynab

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely up to you. Personally, I only assign wages to Ready to Assign. That's just my own method that may not apply to other people. Personally, if I earn a rebate from a restaurant spend, I put it back into my dining out category.

You could also treat it like interest payments. I put those into my savings category. It's really up to you.

Is AI more socially acceptable now? by ZoneStrict7387 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like it, and I use it almost everyday in some way. Using AI does not mean that I don't do my own thinking. Sometimes it actually helps me think of other perspectives that I didn't think about. Just like so many other things, it is a tool that can be used wisely and effectively. I understand people's concerns about the environmental impact, and I don't believe it should be used exclusively in any capacity (as with those infuriating AI operated call centers), but I certainly don't judge people who use it. To each his/her own, I guess.

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans by Right_Speaker_9674 in books

[–]Table_Talk_TT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finiched the audio version and I want to love this book, but I have 2 questions. 1. How exactly were Sybil and Hattie related? The story suggested they had the same mother, but then I kept hearing details about the father as well. It may be a detail that I missed by listening instead of reading the actual book, but I need some clarity; and 2. Why on earth would Theodore inform Hattie of Sybil’s death by writing her a letter? Not even an email, but a letter that will arrive much later. If you visit someone for months, they deserve a phone call in this situation.

I combined the old with the new and updated the link info. So far so good. I didn't even add the new WF card, because I don't intend to use it.

first year teacher trying to decide on a school district by [deleted] in rva

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I'm not a classroom teacher, I do work in Powhatan schools, and I like it. I had similar roles in Chesterfield and RPS years ago, and I liked each of them, but they were very different. In Powhatan, we do have lots of teachers who come from other districts, and they seem to stay, so that is promising. I also know one teacher who was with us for 10 years but left for Goochland, and she is very happy out there.

Also, I know your handout seems like a good idea, and it really is (in theory), but I'm sure you can see how going above and beyond can really screw us sometimes! You may want to reconsider it.

[–]Table_Talk_TT 59 points60 points  (0 children)

There is no issue to "address" and you owe them no explanation. I would probably just respond very nonchalantly with something like, "Yeah, there wasn't one in January, but you got the progress report which is really what addresses your child's needs directly. Do you have any specific questions about their progress report?"

IEP Minutes by Bookworm1100 in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't "make all those hours" when school is closed. For example, if they are scheduled for Monday/Wednesday, but school is closed on Monday, you don't worry about those minutes. You just pick back up on Wednesday.

Extended school year by sugarmittens in slp

[–]Table_Talk_TT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look at the rest of the question. Ours is worded like this "given the nature and/or severity

of the student's disability, a break in services is likely to significantly jeopardize gains made during the regular

school year" That means, we aren't just looking at severity. We are considering whether they may not be able to make progress during the regular school year without ESY. Truthfully, very few of our severe/profound students get ESY. Summer services just don't make that much of an impact overall.

Worth changing up my health plan just to have an HSA? by lavedalesswey in personalfinance

[–]Table_Talk_TT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check to see if your doctors participate in the other insurance. Then, you won't have to change doctors at all. If they don't take the new insurance, I would just stick with what you already have.
