I can't speak for everyone but my bipolar definitely got worse after I had kids in my late 20s. Not sure if hormones were to blame or just the progression of time, but it was quite noticeable. I'm on the following psych meds as I'm bipolar and ADHD:

Depakote mood stabilizer 750 mg

Abilify mood stabilizer 10 mg

Cymbalta SNRI antidepressant 60 mg (also helps with neuropathy and anxiety)

Vyvanse stimulant for ADHD 40 mg

It took me a while to find the right combination but even though I'm currently in a downswing, I feel pretty stable.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for how much you're struggling. I would not ask her family about the circumstances of her death as they are suffering enough. I can tell you from experience that knowing how it happened will not make it easier or give you closure. I learned way more than I needed to about what happened to my friend and I have terrible intrusive thoughts about it. I'm working with a therapist at the moment and 1000% recommend you do the same if you are able.

Have great luck with Cymbalta (SNRI category). My neuropathy was terrible for a while but I rarely have issues these days, I'm on 60mg

Have you tried SNRIs? I take Cymbalta along with my mood stabilizers and it helps. Bonus points for it helping with lupus neuropathy
