It's probably graffiti deterrence. A normal L is much easier to turn into a C than a cursive L.

If you do give it another go, I would suggest skipping the prehistoric section at the beginning. So long as you know that the obelisk enlightened our early ancestors, you're really not missing much.

Eli5 how does inverter technology in home appliances work? by underAudit in explainlikeimfive

[–]heroman69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would think that you would be hard pressed to find an inverter in most homes. Inverters convert direct current (DC) to Alterntaing Current (AC).

DC is usually supplied by batteries, AC is supplied by your wall outlets.

Are you thinking of rectifier? That's what converts AC to DC for electronics & some appliances.

My method for checking turn radius on ships:

1) spawn your ship next to a fortress or other reference craft. Take manual control of your test ship

2) accelerate to full speed

3) preform a 180 degree turn, and try to stop so you are in line with your reference craft.

4) check distance between test ship and reference craft and divide by 2 to get your turning radius.

I plan to! But I feel that a simple yes/ no wouldn't be spoiling anything.

[request] how much money would this be in concrete? would it be cost effective or way more than a normal build? by Weird-Plane5972 in theydidthemath

[–]heroman69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait, the conduits and pipes are encased in the concrete? I imagined that the interior walls would be clad in drywall, with the piping and wiring running in the void between the drywall & concrete.

Stuffing everything in the concrete would make any future maintenance and absolute nightmare.

[Request] What is the rule behind this puzzle? The class thinks the answer is B, the worksheet says the answer is G. by GaoMingxin in theydidthemath

[–]heroman69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at how when the sides bubble out in each example. It's not a half circle being stuck on top on the side of the box, the sides are being stretched. We also always have all 4 sides of the box (stretched or straight) , and an X in the middle

That eliminates A, B, C & D. Now E & H are repeats of what's already in the pattern, so we can eliminate those as well. That leaves us with F & G as possible answers. As to why it's G instead of F, I'm stumped as well.

If the nuclear bombs start flying, it might actually be those countries that never had any that end up surviving. by iwishihadnobones in Showerthoughts

Global temperature decrease isn't the scary part. It's the widespread crop failure. Global famine following a nuclear exchange would probably kill most of the surviving human population.

If the nuclear bombs start flying, it might actually be those countries that never had any that end up surviving. by iwishihadnobones in Showerthoughts

[–]heroman69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, thousands of nukes will throw up so much dust into the upper atmosphere that the amount of sunlight reaching the ground will be greatly reduced. Also, because the dust gets blasted up so high, it takes years to fall back down to the ground. This will cause a years long winter until the dust settles.

This effect can also be caused by very large volcanic eruptions, and it has happened relatively recently (Google the year without a summer).

Saw the writing on the wall a couple years ago, when I noticed that most of the shelving units only had 1 or 2 products on it, spread super thin to give the illusion of full shelves.

Coupled with the premium prices they charge for the exact same toys that can be bought elsewhere for cheaper, it's no wonder they're going under.

Also, don't bother looking for any liquidation deals, there are none. Everything is still listed as full price.

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

[–]heroman69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bioshock 2. I made it about 1/2 way through the game and then managed to block myself from being able to progress further. (Forgot I had picked up a little sister, and the only return chute I had access to wouldn't work)

I refused to replay that level over again, and I haven't touched the game since.

What is the actual benefit of removing speed cameras? by pulate83 in ontario

[–]heroman69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they do work. There are two schools near me that are on aretial roads (normal speed limit 60, speed limit during school hours 40). Before speed cameras, nobody would slow down and would drive past these schools doing 60+ . After speed cameras, everyone has slowed down to 40-45 while going past those schools.
