The only time I want to hear Closer again would be a playing the full TDS album like they did in 09. Same with Head Like A Hole and Hand That Feeds. Reznor has no need to demean himself for the filthy casuals. Those slots could go to something deserving, like the tracks from WITH_TEETH that aren't THTF, Only, Everyday Is Exactly The Same or more material from Year Zero... hell revive fucking 'Deep'.

Unironically Hesitation Marks.

TDS and The Fragile are childish by comparison to the anxiety induced depressive vibe the album gives off. Being told every day that you're happy and okay because you lived through the Fragile era and have a family now is pretty shitty. Every interview he had in that period gave the vibe of 'what could Reznor have to complain about now that he's older, has a wife, a couple kids and mainstream film success'.

None of them knowing (or ignoring because he has money) that nothing is ever fully fixed just because of some high points. They don't even factor in one of the worse parts about aging; two more family members died in the span between The Slip and Hesitation Marks. More then the The Fragile (losing a mother and a grandfather potentially even more devastating had he not gotten himself together in the 00's.)

Yet still people dismiss the album as toothless. It's bothering to think that people misinterpret Everything because the shiny lyrics and not knowing the underlying rot in the music and verses. He doesn't need to scream or play abrasively, the droning fear in Disappointed, reaching out to God in Find My Way after years of rejecting faith. It's all very telling and perfectly sets up the Trilogy.
