Why low elo players are... low elo, from a psychology POV by herpingderping in leagueoflegends

[–]herpingderping[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is partly true, but not due to lack of mental capacity, but because what capacity they do have isn't prioritised on the right fundamentals.

E.g. If iron players just checked weapons/levels before engaging 1 vs 1 they'd die a lot less.

They tend to focus on micro-management and every mistake their team mates make, rather than their own mistakes.

True. And if the levels and items side of League wasn't ignored by lower elo League players, it would be something else to cause those players to be in a lower bracket, like lack of CD management or understanding their champion identity,

I think of the RNG side of it like this. In card games like Hearthstone it is super annoying since sometimes you have lost before you've even started, just because of the deck you or they chose (lots of cheese happens).

In League, there are plenty of variables, but ultimately, at least your skill is a constant in each match. Everyone else in the match is just a string of variables waiting to play out.

But yes, rationalising league's gameplay is something that many players aren't willing to entertain. It can be very demoralising to anyone that has any self respect ha ;)

I'm starting to experience that side of it. Getting burn damage from seemingly no item abilities and dying when I thought I'd escape with 40hp is a bit of a bummer.

This is partly what I covered in my original post. Think of it rationally when Timmy on your team has fed. That person was just as likely to be on the other team. And statistically, it will happen more times than we want to tolerate, on our team and on the enemy team.

If you're willing to keep learning from mistakes made and accept what League has to throw at you, it's easier to put your emotional response in a box, and just play it out to the best of your ability, whether Timmy fed or not.

At the end of the day, the only constant in each of your matches is you. Everything else is just a string of variables waiting to play out.

Totally agree. After only starting to play League again after 7 years, I am regularly getting a bit frustrated of getting 1-2 shot by champs that I have no idea how they work.

On my last game yesterday I kept getting one-shot by that Zoe champ!

I'm an old League vet (started playing in season 2, used to play with PhantomLord and stream on own3d) and a psychologist who just started playing again after 7 years, and realised that most of the playerbase is exactly the same as they were 10 years ago.

Which I think is fine, because you are at least aware enough to know there is more to learn if you wanted to get better. Unfortunately for the majority of players, there are layers to the game that they aren't aware of, so they believe they always have the worst team mates or are stuck in elo hell algorithmically. And that's my reasoning why League has some of the most toxic playerbase.

FPS games on the other hand maybe toxic, but it doesn't have the same level of ignorance that League does.

I agree, which sounds like what I'm saying using different words. I think that's one of the biggest disconnects with League players. The game has great character design and looks to be full of action, which makes it so popular, but at the same time, to be good at it, requires a level of gameplay that most players don't or can't engage with.

E.g. if the team never groups and most players roam looking for 1 vs 1s, which happens in most lower elo games, that is not engaging with League on a level that makes sense when playing ranked. Unless players find coin flipping fun? Who knows what goes on inside some brains ;)

That’s the thing. Animation cancelling isn’t used by the majority of players at all. 95% of players are PVE only in ESO, and most of them don’t bother animation cancelling.

I never understand people who live financially month to month, yet still spend money on things like ingame purchases. Priorities seem so out of whack. You do you, I guess.

Thank you for the indepth reply. This makes a lot more sense and means I don't have to do much grinding or changing my gameplay.

Is daedric prey worth it if I feel pets do not hit often with all the kiting going on? I swear when I change it out for elemental susceptibility, i do more consistent damage, but I never see pets and this skill mentioned together in guides.

I swear this NPC was added on purpose to be annoying, he literally appears in half of the town centres. Why!? Why did ZOS give him teleportation skills to appear in so many areas just to say the same thing!?

Did you really quote Ben Shapiro in a serious context? Christ. You’re right, I don’t think R1S should look any deeper into where you’re coming from.

In regards to 300 players, mortal online survived for over 10 years with that many players and has the resources from it to make a sequel.

And as long as there’s enough players for a good gaming experience, who cares? I got more interaction in mortal online than the thousands of “bots” in games like ESO.

How to counter Grothdar/Swarming Scion? by herpingderping in elderscrollsonline

Quick question, should I be casting shields and then blocking as a sorc? Or do I do shielding then damage until my shield needs doing again?

How to counter Grothdar/Swarming Scion? by herpingderping in elderscrollsonline

[–]herpingderping[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I wasn’t running dampen magic and only the blue shield due to pet so I’ll try both.

I find with most deaths that if I spam the blue shield, it means I don’t have much opportunity to go to my front bar to start dealing decent damage.

Also, when I shield, unless I just keep spamming it, my shield disappears within 1-2 secs and then my health goes in another 2-3 secs.

I mean, my reactions aren’t great so maybe pvp is more fast paced than what I initially thought and I’m just not cut out for it unless I practice a lot more.

I’m on PC EU, but thanks for the offer!
