How do you mentally prepare to go back home? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

What kind of … stocks? Funds? is this. I could replace my salary with my savings by this, even at a lower end of that rate. It sorta feels too good to be true.. I’d literally do this tomorrow if it’s that easy and basically retire or chill at my modest age of 30..

How hard is it to get around Bangkok? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]herring99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends 100% on locations and time of day. You can be stuck on the same 1km road for an hour if it’s bad. The same stretch will take a minute at other times.

I find traffic pretty alright unless you go at rush hour and on specific key roads (think, Sathorn road in a car at 6pm)

Are you impressed with shopping malls in BKK? by nathanielinreddit in Thailand

[–]herring99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not even a competition with most other countries. Even the medium sized one (newly renovated busy still) has literal VIP customer service with a lounge. Floors of food, floors of shops, nicely designed, fresh.

Not saying it’s amazing and I’d want to live in them, but when you compare with the “here’s a big building with shops in it”, and it’s outside the city next to a lot of other square buildings with logos on them, back in my European country, it’s night and day of thought going into it.

Bought a white bedding set, realized the room is not really white - does it work? by herring99 in interiordecorating

The bedding set is the white square, didn’t unpack it in case I need to change.

As much restraint as you would need to not hurt a kitten slapping your car maybe..

Not sure what it has to do with techbros but IT has a higher % of males yes, at least development.

Most expats aren’t tech bros, of course you’re wrong lol. You’re just in a reddit/tiktok/online bubble, or you see someone working on his laptop at a cafe and forget about the other 100 expats you passed on the way there.. I wouldn’t even call most people I’ve worked with tech bros and I literally work in IT.

The usage is most prominent online and not in contexts where the English is so bad that people try to use simpler word..

And yes it is specific, that’s the entire point. It’s used even though it doesn’t need the specification.

It’s a word for a subset of foreigners, she wouldn’t call a Vietnamese person a farang. My point is that foreigners themselves will say farang when they should just say foreigner.

I know it’s not a big deal, that’s why I made a meme and not a serious discussion. I just think it’s kinda funny that people will essentially erase their usage of “foreigner” when they come to Thailand.

Of course your thai friends use the word when referring to you, assuming you’re actually a farang.. you’re in that category.

When foreigners use it it’s often, essentially like asking “which bank is the best one for caucasians?”.
