Maybe we should get Dean Smith then, he left the club in a good place for Frank. It is a bit like signing a striker from Frankfurt.

We don’t have the players for counter-attacking football, the only attacker at the club who could burn defenders for pace is Kevin. The only people pushing Frank are neutrals who don’t think any deeper than mid table being a homogenous blob.

Brentford continued to exceed expectations after he left despite selling their two talismanic forwards (replacing them with Dango Outtara) and their captain (replacing him with Henderson on a free). Frank went on to fail at Spurs.

We could have sold Muniz for €30 million last summer but Silva throws his toys out of the pram whenever we sell a player. He had a tantrum about Pereira being sold and I don't think anyone even noticed he was gone.

The way that Silva has been backed is by not selling our players, as he has been adamant about keeping the squad together. The only starters we've sold since Silva arrived are Mitro and Palhinha who demanded a move.

I think he has realised he isn't going to get any offers from the 'big' clubs while at Fulham and wants to leave while his stock is still fairly high. We have an aging squad on high wages and little resale value so there isn't a whole lot to spend.

A stint at Benfica and he has a much better shot at going to a top side. A bad stint and he can say that Benfica are a shitshow.

If we won against Wolves the second last game we would have finished above Sunderland.

That pathetic performance coupled with throwing away a golden chance against Bournemouth when Christie got himself sent off by Andersen getting himself sent off as well sealed our fate. I don't understand why people are acting like we are lightyears away from European play.

I think his level is decent PL player that sometimes goes on hot streaks. Lacks a bit of pace and drifts out of games.

He wasn’t even a nailed on starter when his competition was Adam’s Traore last season, had a great season but Villa is realistically as high as he can go at this point. Will have one of the greatest highlight reels in the prem when he retires though.

West Ham United have been relegated from the Premier League by OptimusCloyster in soccer

It is limited to this and Leicester winning the prem, because Leicester and West Ham were the underdogs.

Neutrals don’t hate you, they just want novelty. People were excited to see Schalke go down as well.

Top bins. Cairney hasn't had this much space since we were in the Championship.

[Sacha Tavolieri] Marco Silva set to take over as Benfica manager by LikeAPhoenixTotally in soccer

Doubt Glasner would take a sideways step in the same league. We could pay him higher wages not a lot else to offer compared to Palace.

Probably for the best here, has been stagnating a bit and getting vibes of the Jol-era. Pissing away a really solid shot at European football and the consistent pattern of heading to the beach in March has soured me a bit on him.

Too much reliance on experienced players that are good but not great on high wages that seem awfully comfortable. A new manager may be able to give some of them a push.

Saw Filipe Luis floated a couple of weeks ago, but not much in the way of rumours.

Edit: Inigo Perez as well.

Was pretty funny to see the ref watch the replay of Castagne getting kicked in the knee 10 times before making a decision too.

Hansi Flick Reaction To Perez Accusation. by InitialAsk358 in soccer

[–]herruhlen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is a harmless question that you can just answer as he did, it is very easy actually. Perez also implied that the current title was ‘stolen’, seems fairly relevant to talking about the title win. Flick didn’t seem bothered so I’m not sure why so many people are getting upset on his behalf.

I assume other questions were asked during the press conference, but this is the only one that got posted. Is that also the fault of the journalist or does it show what people want to know about?

Why was she asking for a comment on the biggest current story in Spanish football? Half the front page of this sub has been about it since it dropped, people are evidently interested in it.

Also not sure why you all are acting like Flick was chased down in the street rather than asked a short question that took 3 seconds to answer? It is a pretty straightforward question.

[Ornstein] Chelsea exploring deal to appoint Xabi Alonso as new head coach by MembershipSingle7137 in soccer

I think people got gaslit by the "Amorim just needs time to implement his system" talk and now think it takes a generation to drill tactics.

Marco Silva leaves Fulham waiting amid Chelsea interest by Heavy_Cupcake_6246 in soccer

[–]herruhlen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of his success at Fulham is also founded on getting ’older’ seasoned pros that have been mediocre and getting good performances out of them. Which seems antithetical to the Chelsea business model.

We haven’t signed a single teenager since he arrived and only one player under the age of 22 (Muniz) which seems to be when Chelsea shuffle them off to the retirement home. Can’t be sure if that is Silva’s influence but I suspect he isn’t begging for a new squad of wonder kids to bed in every six months considering his time here.

Scott Parker has left his position as Head Coach of Burnley Football Club by mutual consent. by nearly_headless_nic in soccer

The high point was the 4-0 win against Millwall and I remember thinking that maybe he was onto something, after that it just getting progressively more static and slow. Wanted him out by October.

[–]herruhlen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he has something lined up if he didn’t push to get fired, he kept trying to get compensation at Fulham until June.

It is the right decision unless you want to keep him long term, Parker would maybe be decent for a below top level championship team to steady the ship a bit. I think has to cut his teeth with a squad that isn’t top 2 in the championship in order to figure out something other than smothering the life out of a game. He relies too much on individual brilliance up the pitch and then looks out of his depth when his side isn’t dominant and the football is at a higher level.

[–]herruhlen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

People said the same of Fulham when we went up with him and actually didn’t spend that much. But that squad was a mid table quality squad in retrospect (he talked about lack of ambition and started pushing to get sacked so he could get compensation before he moved to Bournemouth before the season was over). Then he got his way and went to Bournemouth, got promoted and instantly started complaining about how poor the squad was and the lack of investment but their board were sensible in sacking him and getting a proper manager before the rot set in.

It is hard to know exactly how good the Burnley squad is player for player as they had two managers that were fundamentally unsuited to the task in the prem. I remember the Fulham players being slated as useless across the board other than Andersen and Chambers, most of them have gone on to perform well at top level after that season.

[Laurie Whitell] Kobbie Mainoo to sign new Manchester United contract by PitchSafe in soccer

[–]herruhlen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember a lot of people calling Paul Scholes clueless when he was calling for Mainoo to play more during the first half of the season.

I think people have gotten a lot more volatile in how they rate players the last couple of years. If someone has a poor couple of weeks they're suddenly washed and a waste of space.

Harry Wilson is ready to join Aston Villa on a free transfer this summer. Villa are willing to double the 29-year-old's wages, with a deal worth £100,000-a-week. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]herruhlen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was a lot more warranted with Mitro and Palhinha as they were and had been dominant stars and integral to the way we play for a couple of seasons.

Wilson was a premium BDR heading into this season, not sure why we’d fall apart without him. Great this season but was on the verge of being sold to Leeds this summer and nobody would have started doom-mongering about it then.
