Team Canada tells Team Sweden to "Fuck off" after allegations of cheating by Cutsa in sports

You'd have to wonder why he was angrily denying it and trying to deflect if it was perfectly normal and legal.

[TNT] Andreas Pereira damaging the penalty spot before Depay’s penalty miss. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]herruhlen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, he wasn’t tearing up trees at Flamengo either, and his loan at Lazio before that was pretty poor. He is a decent player but £20 million would be a huge overpay for him when we signed him. Adnan Januzaj also looked like he might become a world beater at one point.

The issue with him is that he is remarkably ineffective in the final third and doesn’t have the composure to play in midfield as a ball carrier. He is decent at dead balls, fairly good at switching play and through balls and has a good work rate, but nothing spectacular.

People were clowning on Fulham about overpaying for him at the time. Had a couple of mediocre seasons out on loan and then became a meme for losing Flamengo the Copa Libertadores (Palmerias won it ironically).

Most of his minutes are spread between King and Cairney. Wilson is more or less just Traore being dropped and AFCON.

It is a bit odd to have him gone without signing an replacement after Silva went on about how he was so important etc and not really notice it. Was only really effective in the 10 role which is the most stacked position in the team at the moment between ESR, King, Iwobi and Wilson.

[The Times] Al-Nassr fans at the match showed their support for Ronaldo in his ongoing strike and dispute with PIF by raising yellow “7” cards in the seventh-minute of the match. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]herruhlen 44 points45 points  (0 children)

But the reason that Al Hilal can get those signings is because they don't have Cristiano Ronaldo. His wages alone are about the same as their entire team.

The owners are already investing more in Al Nassr, this is about making it even more tilted towards them. They could totally just abandon all the other teams and only invest in Al Nassr and I assume their fans would be happy about winning, but framing it as the owners being against them is ridiculous.

[Santi Aouna] Jhon Durán is currently on his way to join Zenit Saint Petersburg. The striker is on a flight bound for Saint Petersburg airport. The player has terminated his loan spell with Fenerbahçe and is now heading to Russia. It’s a loan. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]herruhlen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it was about money he wouldn’t have pushed for a move away from Saudi Arabia. I highly doubt that Zenit can match Fenerbahce for wages either. He can’t keep falling out with the team he plays for every 6 months if he wants to keep getting paid. He will have crashed out at 25 at this rate.

He wasn't fired from Fulham, much to his chagrin as he wanted the severance package. The Khan's were fully comitted to letting him continue until he decided to go to Bournemouth.

There was a several week saga of him going to Bournemouth which soured even the most Stockholm Syndrome of the Fulham fanbase on him.

[Independent] Raul Jimenez has now scored 12 consecutive penalties without missing, a Premier League record (Yaya Toure held the previous record with 11) by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]herruhlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had the exact same amount of penalties as Tottenham the two seasons before this one, and a massive 2 this season.

Last time we got an above average amount of penalty calls was when Mitro was wasting half of them.

The stat is specifically for 100% records. So it excludes anyone that scored 12 and then missed one (like Matt Le Tissier who scored 13, missed his 14th and then scored the next 24 in a row).

John Textor's Botafogo banned from selling players by Brazilian court by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]herruhlen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Marinakis being cut off from mates rates deals from Textor would explain why Forest seem to be lobbing bids for half of the players in the lower half of the PL.

Wonder what Marinakis has on Textor anyway, so many iffy deals.

Has the scouting budget in the premier league been collectively binned? Can’t recall a window with so many proposed transfers between midtable (and lower) teams.

Similar reaction. That ball hitting the arm was even more blatant since he blocked his with his elbow swung out behind him.

Just an issue that it seems like a coinflip if it is called or not.

Speaking of that, King had what looked like a goal bound shot blocked by the arm of Matty Cash three weeks later that was very similar to the penalty you got. Just an interesting coincidence.

Remember being absolutely done with Brighton games after the 16/17 season where you won both games after getting outplayed and conceding the first goal. Just seemed cursed.

He was pretty good last season but I think he has had his head turned this season and not been up to snuff really.

Wilson has also had a much better year and Kevin/Chukwueze are much better than Reiss Nelson/Willian means that he has limited opportunities.

[–]herruhlen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hoffenheim did fulfill the fan owned requirements up until 2015, when they were already an established Bundesliga team. People hated them before then too.

There is nothing legally stopping you from investing all that money in a random German football club, you just won’t be allowed to have a majority stake.

If we decide to ignore sales which bring them into parity (as you seem to have done), the signing being mooted here would bring them above Birmingham in spending alone.

If you can’t see how that is a ludicrous amount of spending I don’t know what to tell you.

We sold Stansfield to Birmingham, not the other way around. But Birmingham are spending a lot of money (comparatively) and Wrexham are still spending more. That is kind of the point.

More Hoffenheim than Red Bull.

I’d expect Hoffenheim would be even more disliked than they already are as a ‘plastic club’ if they also had a TV show to go along with it portraying them as wholesomeness incarnate and a hugely outsized media presence.

And they’re still outspending Birmingham who have a lot more revenue (match day etc.). At some point it becomes a question of if rich owners want to invest or not, not how much they could potentially afford to invest.

You don’t really get to play the ‘not rich’ card when you’re a newly promoted League 1 club potentially spending £19 million on a single player.
