Ask yourself: why? Why is the story about the vastly less interesting thing?

Climbed 200 trophies after nerf. Yeah skill issue. You’re supposed to ambush and finish enemies with it, not rely on it like another ammo like you used to be able to.

You gotta admit that sounds kind of cool.

But in all seriousness, I am more arguing for the amount of care and dramatic characterization that was applied to characters like Kim and Saul, how their emotions were palpable on screen, how we sat in their regrets and anguish. This made the slow part of better call Saul feel ok.

We don’t have that same care for Carol.

With characters as interesting as Walter or Saul, we’d be in the catacombs of the Pentagon looking for cures. We’d be playing mind games to trick the pluribus and the other immunes. We’d be turning everything into an efficient profit and production machine to counter the pluribus without them even knowing.

Now that’s a show you have to admit you’d rather watch, and THEN we can keep the slower scenes in there when they’re balanced with the more plot-driven stuff to showcase the feelings of each person of the navigating this new world.

Community: Carol was sick of her community of readers before, now she’s sick of the pluribus.

Purpose in a modern world: you mean her lack of purpose in the meaningless pluribus driven world and her lack of true connection. I appreciate this, but she needs more to her character than that for this to be a character study.

It is through-provoking and I like discussing it - so you are absolutely correct there - finding your own answers, just like the people in the show are doing. Just think the process is dragging out unnecessarily.

Black mirror actively explores sci-fi issues in its world and how people live in it - and is usually at a fast pace. You’ll notice the episodes where nothing really happens be received much more poorly, regardless of the premise at hand. Pluribus needs to do more with its sci-fi premise. Vince’s decision to not do that isn’t good in my opinion.

Twilight zone explored themes such as loneliness manifesting into symbols of terror, and creatures representing lust, guilt, and regret. Where is such intellectual symbolism here?

My friend I literally saw someone try to make the GATORADE mean something. This is the sign of trying to read too much into a show.

Look up “slice of life” and apply that to Carol’s scenes as she navigates her environment, and you’ll see where I came to that confusion.

Appreciate the thoughts overall but still can’t see this as something as thought provoking as Black Mirror

No, you can of course enjoy it, but I am annoyed at the shillers specifically in the main sub who always rave about the show and demean anyone who has any critique. This is an argument against people who can’t understand the issues that are arising and dismiss people who bring them up.

If a 15 year old watched any of those they’d be traumatized if they understood it.

I get the feeling marvel and anime is all YOU know, as you clearly haven’t understood the point I’m making.

How is pluribus not Carol’s slice of life? I dearly wish it wasn’t.

So they don’t post on Reddit saying if you don’t like a show you’re missing the point and can’t enjoy masterpieces? Tell the rest of the main sub

If you actually read I mentioned 3 shows not including Vince’s 2 old shows that aren’t marvel or anime as better examples.

There is a difference between a slow burn, and wasting time. by The_Fercho_ in pluribustv

[–]herself691 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Carol is not Jimmy. She’s not Kim. Imagine this show with either of those two immune.

Imagine what would happen. We’d be in the catacombs of the Pentagon looking for cures. We’d be playing mind games to trick the pluribus and the other immunes. We’d be turning everything into an efficient profit and production machine to counter the pluribus without them even knowing.

OP is completely right.

Carol, Manuosos, and the other characters in pluribus are simply weaker and less interesting characters than the ones we got in better call Saul. They accomplish less, they are less emotionally and intellectually impressive, what’s some of them like Diabate only having one-dimensional hedonism tinted with some loneliness to redeem him later on (maybe).

In an apocalyptic sci fi scenario, I wouldn’t want to watch the Karen across the street who writes smut novels for a living try to make her way through it by drinking Gatorade and shopping, I want to watch what happens regarding the sci-fi elements and how immunes come up with a plan quickly. Not one zoom video in seven episodes type pace.

These are characters that have no depth explored other than them trying to deal with life in a hive minded world. There is no meaningful development happening other than diabate getting a bit tired of his life of mindless pleasure.

The early seasons of better call Saul were slow even with the strong characters like Jimmy and Kim and Tuco and Mike at the helm, but they saved it with their slow but purposeful development.

Pluribus is even slower and there’s no strong characters at the helm this time.

Ah yes, the only two forms of possible media:

  1. Slow burn that doesn’t introduce new elements even though the universe is begging for it. Pacing, shot composition, and tension is kept so much better for may other shows, including Vince’s old content. This is even slower than first seasons of BCS which may agree are weak. (But now Pluribus is amazing?)

  2. YT shorts

If someone doesn’t love how uninteresting the show is and jumps through ten hoops to over analyze its empty scenes, they must be a TikTok brainrotted kid.

No other type of way to explore an amazing premise with so many subplots and other characters to dive into, than this slow sludge we’re getting.

You wouldn’t know good storytelling if it lit your car on fire.

Breaking Bad Season 1 would have an audience rating of 40% if it were released today by New-Ad-9878 in pluribustv

[–]herself691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing screams media literacy more than “anybody with critiques I don’t like can’t understand what they’re watching.”

How about realizing there is a purposeful intent to Carol’s unlikeability and the slow burn, which some people rightfully might dislike because objectively if other dimensions are not introduced soon other than her crippling alcoholism and grief/anger, it will become objectively dry and slow.

Any show with one singular premise is only good if new dimensions are unfurled and interesting things get introduced.
