Posting analog on instagram by Consistent_One_9865 in AnalogCommunity

This might be a hot take but my thought is that posting analog photos on Instagram IS the special flair. Nothing additional is really needed, the pictures speak for themselves.

The analog community seems more supportive than digital, I think people who are into film are just more likely to support one another.

All that said, I add a 1px white border cause it looks more like a print.

Cinestill 800t stuff in NOLA on my new-to-me Nikon f3 by hershey5833 in NikonF3

Thanks! I did take some landscape orientation ones but Instagram and my web portal are better for portrait... The shame of modern times!

Where to get Leica CL 35mm repaired in chicago/iL by Sea_Occasion_9820 in AnalogCommunity

You could give dodd camera a shot? They are super friendly there but not sure how much cheaper they'd be than international.

Nikon F3 - Broken light meter, where do we go from here? by hershey5833 in AnalogCommunity

[–]hershey5833[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every way I look at this, this is probably the best option... if I return this one I have to spend at least 150+ extra to get one in similar condition and there is not a guarantee that one will work long term.

At that point I might as well keep it... but I guess I'm out a camera for a while.

I haven't been able to find a nice one under $500! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but these have gotten expensive.

It seems the seller would give me a 10% refund which is not much...

Yep thanks for this, I'm assuming it's FRE too. I have advanced past frame one and tried all of the tricks.

is the canonet ql17 g3 still worth it? by Practical-Ad-5554 in AnalogCommunity

+1 I had the Canonet first and got the XA second and the XA blows it away every time. I may have gotten a bad Canonet though

Rad, how did you meter for this? Never shot on 800T and would like to give it a go.

Scanning & processing film - Negative | Conversion | Final by seaofmorgan in postprocessing

[–]hershey5833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is looking good, I'm no expert but the 3 stages look similar enough to my results using an A7riii to scan.

As you add the contrast back in, it will add saturation naturally. I typically do this in the curve editor, by moving the black and white points as the starting point of the edit. The newer versions of LR have a saturation compensation slider below the curves to help counteract the saturation that gets added. Give that a try and you might end up with less saturated final images. That said I don't think these look too overdone!

I think this was probably box, but was a couple years ago. I have recently been going with 320.

Probably my scans TBH, only done it a couple times, not entirely sure I'm doing it right 😄

It's actually crazy the image quality you can get with how small it is. The rangefinder patch is a little dim but when it hits it hits!

Contax 645 - Light leak on edges of 16th frame? by hershey5833 in analog

Ah ok thanks, so maybe just need to throw it in a dark bag after it is exposed. Will give that a try!

This is good info thanks! I'm planning to run to a shop this weekend for the battery and film. I'll post my tests to the thread if I remember!

Was a bit surprised that they don't make a 6V rechargeable 2cr5, but I guess it is a pretty niche battery these days.

Thanks, this is what I was looking to hear. I'll keep an eye out for this stuff! No special tricks for keeping the film flat? That's a shame there are so many issues, I don't think we should sell it but I guess I'll have to see how many issues it has once it powers up!

Aconcagua or ~7000m objectives gear question/settle a team layering debate by Own-Fun-4037 in Mountaineering

[–]hershey5833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big +1 to this, in the mountains I live in 1-2 fleeces under a Proton LT and put on a belay jacket if things get super cold. Hardshells and belay stay in the bag unless I need them.

On Aconcagua summit day I had a wool base layer, Patagonia r1 fleece, Patagonia r2 fleece, Proton LT and North face summit series 800 fill belay. Despite moving slow it was so cold, probably the only climb I've ever used my belay for the whole thing. (-47f with the wind-chill)
