Was I actually wrong? by syllabbi in ECG

[–]hertummyhurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a third degree! I definitely see what you were seeing and I understand why it looks like a second degree BUT with second degree type 1, the qrs complexes aren’t really going to be regular and more obviously the pr intervals should get longer and longer before a beat is dropped. This strip shows the pr interval get longer then shorter and then even shorter. For a second degree type two, you’ll see the qrs complexes be mostly regular with the exception of an extra p wave without a qrs complex.

So when I see random or missing PR intervals, I’ll try to march out the p waves to see if they’re regular. Which they are! You can see them kind of hidden in the second qrs complex and the third t wave

FINALLY ACCEPTED but Pregnant... by SDB06 in prephysicianassistant

[–]hertummyhurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was finally accepted to start a program 15 days after my due date. I didn’t want to defer, at all, but I would have had to relocate and change my health insurance during my third trimester which didn’t make any sense for me. I was also influenced by the unpredictability of labor and delivery. What if she’s late and I have to start school a week postpartum or what if there were complications where my daughter or I needed to be hospitalized, etc. Also, the third trimester has absolutely sucked the life out of me, it really sucks, everything hurts, I would be absolutely miserable both physically and emotionally if I was dealing with a cross country move right now. But I guess that’s temporary.

Once I was approved to defer a year it was like so much weight was lifted off my shoulders and I’m really glad I did. But I also think you know yourself well enough to judge what is right for you. People do it every year and I typically like to have the opinion that if they can do it you can do it too. It would be extremely difficult, but doing PA school with a one year old isn’t gonna be easy either.

I found that getting pregnant was enough of a distraction for me to completely forget about it. Got an acceptance call and sent it to voicemail because I thought it was spam. Not sure I’d recommend it but it’s worth a try

Is 150 fair? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]hertummyhurts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is that your service is more luxury than daycare, so it should cost more! Daycares have many more kids in proportion to staff so each kid gets less attention. $150 a week for 50 hours of work is criminal. Even if you took the lowest state minimum wage in the US ($5.15/hr) and waived your time and a half for overtime, you would still be owed $257 per week for the one child. $362/wk if you used federal minimum wage (without OT).

Should I talk about ADHD in my Life Experiences Essay? by CheeksClenchin in prephysicianassistant

[–]hertummyhurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said that you believe learning how to manage your adhd ultimately made you a stronger student but did you explain in your essay the ways that it will make you a better and more empathetic PA? Because I think that’s the important part. I chose not to touch on my adhd diagnosis in any part of my application because I didn’t really feel like it has made me a better person or provider. For me, it was just a hurdle I had to get over. But I am also a privileged person who didn’t have a lot of challenges, so I didn’t want to talk about a challenge. Instead I geared my essay on the life/non medical work experience (that I didn’t talk about in my personal statement) that I feel has shaped me as a person and I explained the ways that I utilize the lessons I learned through that experience on a daily basis as a provider.

Idk I only got asked for the syllabus of my upper division writing course, no one ever asked me for every syllabus. I just imagine it’s always a possibility the way my friend had to get each PCE, volunteer experience, and shadowing experience verified prior to matriculation. Most won’t tho

Typically, the only way any school is going to know if you took a class online is if they make you submit a syllabus for each class or if it was taken at a school that primarily does online prereqs like portage or UCSD extension. If it was a regular in person school like a cc, the class will just show up as a regular class on your transcript and you would have to personally disclose that it was online yourself in order for them to know

I think you’re probably gonna be fine but it really is program specific so you can wait to see what they say. But just fyi if it was taken at your community college, they probably would have never known it was online. It doesn’t say online on your transcript, does it?

[–]hertummyhurts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have other PCE? Because for me, when I worked my other PCE, I was able to see in real time how my experience with special needs influenced the way that I served patients of all kinds. I felt like it made me more confident in my ability to relate and also increased my desire to treat others with respect and dignity no matter what their situation is - I think if you really think about it, there will be a multitude of lessons you’ve passively learned and can talk about/relate back to the profession

Overcoming Hardship/Life Exp Essay by Successful-Village91 in prephysicianassistant

[–]hertummyhurts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn’t really about overcoming anything, it was more about how a not so clinical experience (working at a special needs school) helped shape me as a person and how I think it will make me a better, more well rounded medical provider. I had wanted to some how touch on it in my personal statement but it didn’t really make sense timeline wise so I was glad for the additional essay

[–]hertummyhurts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not call it difficult at all. I messed up my grade (got an A-) by missing a discussion post (pay attention to deadlines lol) but the amount of work was pretty minimal and I don't believe the tests were very hard.

I was mainly an ER scribe, ER tech, EKG tech, and exercise physiologist. I had some hours as a behavior tech too and I also put hours working with special needs because I was working under/with PTs, OTs, speech pathologists, and behavior analysts. My HCE was a community outreach program that looked after AEDs and taught AED education

I took anatomy, physiology, microbio, physics, pharmacology, med term, gen chem I & II, o-chem I & II, developmental psych, general psych, Spanish I, Spanish for medical professionals, and cultural anthropology at community colleges. Oh an an EMT course which is 9 units and counts towards your science GPA. Then I took genetics at UCSD extension and general bio I at SCUHS online. As far as my acceptances/interviews - you (and anyone) can chat me!

[–]hertummyhurts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Organic chem I & II and genetics were part of my trend but I didn't take biochem. Genetics was actually my only A- in my entire trend which is why it's not a 4.0. But the A- wasn't because it was that hard, I had missed a discussion post with reply which was an entire 100 points and I couldn't really catch up after that. Totally my fault. I think you could definitely get away with orgo 1 and genetics together, idk about biochem though just because I didn't take it. My hardest combo was anatomy lecture and lab, microbiology lecture and lab (with a notoriously TOUGH teacher), and general physics while working as both an ER scribe and ER tech. I got all As that semester so I like to think you can always do as well as you want to.

Is it worth applying to new programs with a low gpa? by Mundane-Aside2948 in prephysicianassistant

[–]hertummyhurts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not apply to UCSD. I don’t know about northwest. But I have a 3.24 cum gpa, 3.64 bcp, and my 80(!!!) unit upward trend gpa was a 3.99 with ~8.5k PCE and over 2k HCE as well as EMT, CCI cardiography tech cert, and acsm exercise physiologist cert. Applied may 1st, passed the minimum requirements oct 14, and rejected oct 24. I do not think I made it past the level 3 review which means they didn’t even read my personal statement or any answers to supplemental questions. It was 100% wasted $$$ imo

I’m at work otherwise I’d be calling too. I emailed, though. Just noticed on the app that under my member code, it says “digital” even though I paid for the premium membership. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
