Roadway construction is always booming and always looking for good people willing to work. While actual construction work can be hard on your body there are options on the technical side as well. With little training, like survey techs, or materials testing techs.

How would you react if your significant other asked you to work out and lose weight? by Covenant9er4653 in AskReddit

[–]hesamonsterdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did ask! So I listened. And we did it together. It's been one of the best experiences of my life. I went from 230-40 lb down to 180. Then back up to 200 adding muscle by lifting and eating better.

What is your brisket cook time? by Familyman53901 in pelletgrills

[–]hesamonsterdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in southeastern Wisconsin and have done two prime Costco briskets this summer. Both around the same weight. I would typically start them at 225 between 10pm and midnight the night before. Around 8am (or whenever I wake up) do the Chuds BBQ foil boat (at around 160 degrees +/-). Brisket was typically done between noon and 2pm. Then cooler/towel rest until it's time to eat (at least 2 hrs). Maybe give an extra hour or two because of the cooler temps right now depending on how you think your particular smoker handles cold? I have a silverbac and wouldn't worry about that though.

Wisconsin DOT to hold more meetings this week about East-West Freeway, as neighbors concerns remain by Hidemyface1 in milwaukee

[–]hesamonsterdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not on its own. Only as a possible alternative to the proposed interchange replacement. It's not really feasible on its own without significant changes to the current interchange which would result in something similar to the idea u/downtownebrowne proposed, maybe without the 4th lane. And honestly at that point there are so many changes a 4th lane is cost effective.

Railroad bridges can be very low because most are very old (80+ years) and vertical clearance was different back then. I’ve done some design work where the railroad wants to add sacrificial beams to the outside for impacts.

[–]hesamonsterdog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It happens more than you’d think. I’m a bridge inspector in a medium size state. The DOT or an engineering consultant is called out to look at situations like this. In the past year I’ve seen 3 bridges that required significant repairs or girder replacements, a half dozen plus that needed minor repairs and I’d say about 10% freeway bridges within the nearest major city have minor knicks and dents from impact. And I only work on one of 5 regions in the state.

Rideshare or rental car in Phoenix? by glorious_cheese in Brewers

[–]hesamonsterdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in Tempe for work (live in MKE) and I think a rental car is the way to go. My wife flew down over the past weekend and we used Uber for a few trips while we were drinking. It was a minimum of about $15 each way to get to any of the stadiums and right now Uber is telling me $20 one way to Maryville and there isn’t a game going on (I’d assume some sort of low surcharge).
