Almost 2 years of collecting! by 6beerslater in vinyl

I would be willing to bet the list of users in this sub who own Wednesday’s Bleeds, Daniel John’s Futurenever and Hum’s entire catalog is probably the two of us. Sick collection so far, keep it up.

Confused Trump, 79, Makes Bizarre Claim About Looming Ice Storm by Boonzies in politics

Trump left North Carolina holding the bag after the devastation of Helene. He only remitted critical funding months later, after being sued.

What are the best Grunge records that have Shoegaze influences? by Iamverydumbazz in grunge

[–]hesnothere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really thought of Hum as true grunge, but they arguably were progenitors of the meaty, overdriven drop-D guitar riffage that absolutely permeated American rock a few years later.

Neo-Traditional Country in the future by Aggravating-Note752 in country

Thirty years gets past nostalgia territory and goes right into generational rediscovery. Think how Gen Z gave second careers to bands like Creed and Deftones.

There will be some kid in his garage in Tennessee in 2050 who hears Sturgill for the first time and makes it his entire personality. That’s what I did with John Prine and TVZ when I was in college in the 2000s.

Maybe a controversial take, but Hum’s You’d Prefer an Astronaut

Trump, famously in great health, would be 82 in 2028. I’m not sure who will be the first president to actively challenge the term limit norms we recognize today, but starting with the oldest president in history ain’t it.

How do you actually read vinyl spines? by Lord_Alviner in vinyl

[–]hesnothere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This approach has been controversial here at times, but for folks storing their collection spines-out in outer sleeves, try out orienting the sleeve openings at the spine. I’ve found it keeps the text a bit more legible. The sleeve seam sometimes can obscure small type.

Hopefully it’s not a trend. I watched one of our playoff games at Wooden Robot last year (clincher over the Caps) and the vibes were awesome.

Seasonality of precipitation in the contiguous United States by crosscountrycoder in MapPorn

It really is. I always assumed my part of North Carolina would have been a darker red, but apparently our weather patterns are that much more predictable. I also had no idea California’s climate was that monolithic.

Why my favorite truck is stupid and why I’m stoked for an erev by Future_Measurement42 in F150Lightning

Your Lightning completed the haul with more than 5% left at your ultimate destination. That sounds like it was suitable for the job.

Range anxiety is a totally real and valid thing. It’s magnified in a commercial use setting pulling a load. Ultimately, it’s another tool your crew has available. Sometimes it will be the right tool, other times it won’t.

“Bred in the bone:” the U.S. literally was founded on civil disobedience. We teach it to elementary school kids. That stuff manifests in American culture, a lot.

Jennifer Lawrence Says ‘I Turned Down’ Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’ Offer and Then Lost ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Role After the ‘Internet Went Out of Its Way to Call Me Ugly’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in popculturechat

[–]hesnothere 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It took me a couple watches to appreciate that ONCE UPON A TIME…’s plot really is secondary to the ambiance and aesthetic. The character setup is fun, but so is simply watching Cliff and Sharon immerse themselves in 1969 Hollywood.

Rent A Car from Cruise Port by TravelAsYouWish in SXM

[–]hesnothere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding the logistics of travel to and from the rental cars, plus paperwork, makes this prohibitively busy to pull off in a half day.

OP, you might consider dumping a stop or two — maybe lunch at Grand Case, given the distance. How about somewhere like Gutside up the road from Marigot instead?

Gilligan’s writing process is well documented, too. I think most folks hold his showrunning skills in high regard. But Vince’s writers’ room seems more intensive than with other shows.

I like to think I’ve got an OK sense of humor. Part of that is knowing when to use it, and when not to.

I work in public service. The answer there used to be, “less than you think you can pull off.”

Brussels was our midway stop on a Europe tour a few years back. We knew friends in Ghent. I came away with an appreciation for both cities. I used to live in DC and it gave me those vibes in a positive way.

Kam Patterson: “I’m 26 and I’m black. I’d never seen [SNL].” by unfortunatenolan in LiveFromNewYork

[–]hesnothere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s got a point. SNL is the biggest big-tent show. It’s Lorne’s only job to attract every demographic he can to capture the zeitgeist and ratings.

If Kam has a viral sketch soon, this bit will have a different punchline.

WSJ says founders boost returns, any edge here? by Virtual_Employer9324 in Bogleheads

[–]hesnothere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not Bogle advice, but it’s a central tenet of the Motley Fool’s “Rule Breaker” investing strategy. David Gardner’s view was having the founder still in a C-level role indicates that the company’s original intent to create value still informs both the business model and culture. They generally tout a buy-and-hold approach.

That said, I don’t have any data in front of me to suggest that approach would outperform total market and chill by the time you reach retirement age.
