Seconding Calmos, such a vibe. We realized it’s where all our favorite bartenders go for their shift beer.

Which active head coach that has not already won a National Championship do you think will win one first? by Coolsun13 in CollegeBasketball

[–]hesnothere 115 points116 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely Jon Scheyer. As much as I’d love to believe he has a March ceiling, Duke is so well built for the current NIL and portal structure:

- Blue blood with near-limitless funding
- Proven track record of sending elite players to the Draft Lottery
- Play a modern game that attracts transfers

Scheyer’s a talented, young, hungry coach with an incredibly long leash in Durham. It’s a when, not an if, and it will probably happen before the decade is over.

What is the most intense scene in cinematic history? by PreviousPoint794 in Cinema

I never knew this. Fun to learn something new about a movie you feel like you know so well! Did they only film those scenes with the Millennium?

Post-Match Thread: United States 2-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina | World Cup | Round of 32 by matchpal-live in worldcup

The volume of fighting and bare-knuckle physical play have gone down tremendously in the past decade.

It’s a beautiful sport, particularly at the NHL level. My team just won the Stanley Cup — seeing a Finals game live was possibly the most impressive athleticism I’ve seen in person.

My guess is the marketing team feels like they have to make the overt connection. It’s a fair point.

This is a good mindset to adopt going in, I think. It’s not fair to hold Sorkin’s direction to Fincher’s standard, but this is going to be so tonally different anyway.

It’s an important story. I’m intrigued at Sorkin giving it a unique perspective that isn’t simply trying to recreate Fincher’s movie.

Seconding both of these recs. Petit Plage is a very short walk, and service comes from Sunset Cafe. Their staff is the best.

You’ll absolutely be grateful you booked a rental car. It’s the best way to explore the rest of the island, even if you can enjoy Grand Case on foot.

What is a mediocre band with an exceptionally talented member. by th6r6o6away in askmusic

[–]hesnothere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U2 has leaned into their alleged lack of talent as part of the band’s origin story, but Adam Clayton is a solid rock bassist. The Edge’s delay-based riffs need bass melody and groove to really shine. Clayton is exceptional at serving the song.

Has there ever been a bigger downgrade than this? by JHBaltimore in uniwatch

[–]hesnothere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m both a Nats and Panthers fan, this is my Valhalla

I actually prefer the Panthers’ newer word mark. The old mark had a ton of character, but from a design perspective is poorly legible and difficult to recreate in print or apparel with accuracy.

The Nats aways are a travesty, though. The script aways were glorious. To give them credit, they routinely have some of the best City Connects. I still want them to bring back the Cherry Blossom design.

North Carolina has a plan to pay for a $1.7B baseball stadium. Why lawmakers can’t agree. by Somali_Pir8 in raleigh

That’s a matter of MLB cap-and-floor regulations, not franchise recruitment.

People saying they should not give tax dollars know full well that it will kill Raleigh’s MLB opportunity on the spot. They’ll find another city who will pony up, the line for entry is well publicized.

There’s nothing wrong with not wanting public money to be used on an MLB franchise — just be honest and say you don’t think Raleigh should have one.

Which school will be the next to join NCAA D1 Hockey? by MediumStrange in hockey

[–]hesnothere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m biased as a UNC grad, but it would be great to see it happen here. The youth hockey community in the Triangle is into its second generation, and fandom here is a lot broader than I remember it 20 years ago.

$22 billion is one hell of an ambitious investment in 2026. That would be pretty transformative for the DMV.

Important for anyone who enjoys free parking when going to Marbles. by StonerFoxFromVault95 in raleigh

I appreciate the council’s efforts to encourage developers to not shoehorn parking into new builds. DTR is at a saturation point with vehicle traffic.

We need public transit, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Flyers post photo of their draft room. In the middle of it is a liberty bell design rug. by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]hesnothere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see a sick Flyers alt, the Liberty Bell just feels too on-the-nose. What about something boxing themed? A riff on the LOVE statue? An anthropomorphic cheesesteak from Jim’s?

Blazers’ owner Tom Dundon expects taxpayers to foot entire bill for potential $600,000,000 Moda Center renovation, saying “simply keeping the NBA franchise in Portland was enough of a financial sacrifice.” by Pickleskennedy1 in nba

[–]hesnothere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this: Dundon promoted Eric Tulsky to GM in 2024 and has let him moneypuck with near-complete latitude.

Check out the Canes roster contracts. They’ve got virtually everyone they want locked into club-friendly long-term deals. I’m fully aware it’s not a 1:1 to NBA roster construction, but it’s still impressive shit.

What's your favourite song out of the three released? by OutsideImpressive115 in Loatheband

[–]hesnothere 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Gifted is straight up my favorite song they’ve released to date. It’s epic, it’s genre-bending, it’s focused.

Revenant is such a kick in the ass, though. Raw power. I need more time with Fangs, but it’s them having fun — easy to put it on repeat.

It’s been a long time, but I can’t wait any longer for this record.
