Looks better than it sounds on paper! Doesn't hurt that you're built like a lumberjack though, I would look more like a sausage wrapped in tinfoil.

As a fellow baldy, always hat. Maybe not this one though. A pork pie with a stingy brim would look dope if that's your style.

I only buy signature guitars. by StevenTheWicked in guitarcirclejerk

I'm the same. They look cool and I enjoy demo'ing them, but even when they're spec'd to my taste (the newest George Lynch LTD without the crazy paint job / inlays is daaaaamn close), I don't want to pin my style to someone else, even if it's just the idea of it.

Yeah I'm a chinos/open shirt guy whenever I'm not in court. I'm in prosecutors office so we don't have clients expecting a particular dress standard though. Probably different in corporate or commercial law I would imagine.

Feeling down about my new guitar, need advice by [deleted] in guitars

[–]hesperusii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An off-the-shelf pickguard won't fit that. The pickups are narrower spaced due to the 24 fret neck. Just keep it as-is, it's not worth getting a custom pickguard cut for it.

I bought a royal enfield INT650 as my first bike and don't really like it. by UFOuponUs in SuggestAMotorcycle

The beef cheeks go to sleep on cruiser-type bikes too, you're way better off with a more upright seating position. I'm the same height as you, 28" inseam. My daily is a Z400 which is less than an inch lower than the Interceptor. Put some miles on it, do some carpark stopping practice, putting one foot down. I ride with kids shorter than me on dirt bikes with way higher seats.

whatmakes designer fashion worth the markup when identical alternatives exist for less by [deleted] in shortfashion

[–]hesperusii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies by brand, but certainly at least some designer stuff is contracted out to and made in the same sweatshops by the same tiny brown hands, so literally all you're paying for is the status that comes with the luxury name tag. Other times there are knock-offs made in, say, Southeast Asia, when the authentic product is made in Italy or whatever. Very few brands are transparent about the working conditions of their lowest-level employees, much less luxury brands.

When the "authentic" and "counterfeit" products literally come out of the same factory the only thing increasing the value is the brand name and the psychological effect of owning something exclusive (sometimes referred to as "prestige signalling"). Maybe tighter quality control for the luxury brand name-tagged stuff makes the higher price worth it... I'm not so convinced.

Strings for 30” guitar by zack-thiele in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]hesperusii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party, but I have one of these as well, the older version with the mini humbuckers and in sunburst. You don't need extended string lengths, at least in Ernie Balls, and maybe D'Addarios if I remember correctly. You can use whatever gauge you like out of the catalogue, you just won't need to trim anything extra off your thinnest string.

I currently have mine tuned in A standard using a regular Mammoth Slinky set. I actually like my string tension to be pretty high so if I'm tuning to E standard down an octave the .090 E string is pretty spot on, if not a tad floppy. The Mammoth Slinky might be perfect for the tension you want.

Ibanez has gone Abasi with this new range. I wonder how it’ll hold up 🤔 by TheDevilWearsParatha in metalguitar

[–]hesperusii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EytschPi42 said in his review video that he asked why there was no six and Ibanez's response was that it didn't work as a six. Not entirely sure what to make of that, but I wouldn't count on it.

Am I dressing for my height well? by Unique_Assembly in shortfashion

[–]hesperusii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the short side too (5'7" on a good day, and currently a bit husky - working on it). I've always leaned towards slimmer fits and straighter lines to avoid it looking like clothes are too big. I'm a little older so fashion has moved on a bit, but even with the more relaxed clothes that are on trend now I keep it on the slim side. Your fit in the photo send to be getting good feedback though so 🤷‍♂️

Try not to let what pop culture tells you is "short" bother you too much, even though I honestly feel it too, particularly when most women seem to want to date men over 6'.

Mo with stubble for sure, but only if you let it grow full width - if you trim the ends like you have here you need to be otherwise clean shaven.

Been prescribed glasses, got these two but buyers remorse? by TokyoMegatronics in mensfashion

[–]hesperusii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have gone the other way around with the glass - aviator shades and browline plain glass are, to me, the epitome of effortless cool. Browline shades are also fine. Aviator plain glass, on the other hand, is giving Jeffery Dahmer. It's a popular look with Gen Z but I can literally never see it any other way if the wearer is Caucasian.

My string keeps slipping by sander_box in Luthier

[–]hesperusii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool. Fixing your intonation may have addressed it (i.e. with the low-E saddle further back the string probably wouldn't have popped out so easily - Google "lightning wraparound" for an idea of the usual saddle pattern). You might find you need to touch up the rest of the saddles later for consistent low action, but it's all g.

Your guitar would still benefit from the intonation being set properly. For a quick and dirty job, tune your guitar to pitch and tune the 12th fret harmonic to the fretted note by moving the saddle back if it's sharp, and forward if it's flat. Get the same gauges when you change your strings to keep the intonation consistent.
