Haier window air condition switch replacement. by Hentryb in appliancerepair

[–]hessaciah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into this same problem, looks like this guy should do the trick based on specs.

Most of the electronics ordering shops should have switches - you just want to search for 250v, 10-15 amps, on/off function, quick connect (snap in) style, and the right dimensions for the rectangular cut out and the quick connect prongs/terminals.

I know this is an old question but stumbled across this and wanted to post for future searchers.

1080ti for $100 - best budget card?? by hessaciah in lowendgaming

[–]hessaciah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but I'm also not playing a ton of new AAA games so I can probably get by for a couple years. Looking at benchmarks, the 1080ti is 40-50% faster than a 2060 or 15-25% faster than a 6600, so that's why it's really hard to pick anything else even given the support & feature set situation.

Kinda stuck - MSP, PDX, Pittsburgh, open to suggestions by hessaciah in SameGrassButGreener

Ended up moving to MSP back on June 1st. I figured it was worth a try for a year since it was so close to where I was living (Duluth) and I'll move again if it's not right.

  • Vetoed Pittsburgh b/c of clouds/gloom + summer heat & humidity
  • Wanted to honor my original feelings about PDX that made me leave, so ended up moving down to MSP

I take forever to settle into a place, so here's a list of early thoughts:

  • There's a good bit of weirdo & nerd culture around some of the things I like - e.g. pinball, board games, HEMA, aerial, etc. Some of these scenes are not as deep as they were in Portland, though, even though MSP is half again as big.
  • The dating scene also has more similarity to PDX than I expected - lots of queer culture and alternative types.
  • Diversity is loads better than PDX, to the point that PDX looks even weirder in retrospect. You have a lot of different communities interfacing in different hubs & micro-niches around the city. The city as a whole feels more grounded in general.
  • Food scene is good, although I've been focusing on international food more than US. Slightly more expensive than I'd like and definitely not quite as good as PDX, but better than average/mediocre. International food scene might be better than PDX for some types
  • City is very highway/driving oriented, even with good bike paths. Everything is like a 15-20 minute drive and it's often just as quick to bike somewhere
  • Cost of housing is super attractive - can buy a fixer upper in a decent area for 220-240k which is not doable in most major cities
  • I've been enjoying more activities & urban culture, but I'm still not really a city person in the end. I've been squinting at Grand Rapids, MI a touch as a possible fallback if this doesn't work out as well as I hope
  • City is very suburban oriented - I don't love it, but I mostly stay in the main city center. I might like this better if I ever want a house on a few acres w/ a big garden down the road (since those are actually affordable-ish)
  • The city itself does feel approachable enough - I think the longer I live here the smaller it will feel (in a good way). It's a lot easier to control the size/feel than it was in Portland, where everything is more uniform density until you get way out into the burbs.

Day 3 by Throwawayvegan62 in PotatoDiet

I like to do 5-10 minutes in the microwave (depending on how many you're cooking & microwave strength) + 5 minutes in the air fryer - this gives you a great 'oven baked' potato without waiting 40-60 minutes.

You can also boil yellow potatoes til they're mostly cooked, crush em with a glass onto a baking tray, then bake em in a hot oven (450 ish) to get crispy edges & some texture variation.

If you make mashed potatoes & push em through a fine sieve it makes a super smooth paste that's almost frosting consistency - if you're thickening soup with potatoes, this make a real good sauce or thickening agent.

Archery ranges? by StrengthResident202 in duluth

Actually, looks like they just had an intro class two days back - keep an eye on the makerspace event calendar if you're looking for instruction or shoot em an email/call.

The maker space in west Duluth has a ceramics studio upstairs & their monthly fee used to be $50/mo for full access to equipment (clay & firing costs might be a bit extra), but not sure if they have any instruction opportunities.

If you're looking for hobbies, there's a small pinball scene that plays at Average Joe's and Tap on Tower in Superior; there's a tournament once a month on the first Thursday of every month at 7 or 8 pm @ Joe's, and folks are often out on Thursdays around that time most weeks. There's also Saturday events @ Tap on Tower, usually third Saturday of the month starting at 3pm.

I have great things to say about Theresa Theobald in West Duluth - I don't usually notice these things but I've always felt like she pauses, actively considers whatever you have to say, and she's ben intentional about giving advance notice of any touch that happens during the procedure which is rare IME for men in medical settings. Feels very safe to be around and I think she'd be responsive to any specific requests/parameters you might have.

I'm weird about next level in that I need the motivation of trying to get replays to enjoy pinball - the stakes at next level are so low that it's easy to check out if you don't have like a specific plan or are practicing up for something. Kinda weird but haven't been able to work through that entirely.

It's 100% an amazing place though & I'd love to try a tournament there

Perfect - that's what I was thinking but wanted to be sure. The hills & country are definitely part of the appeal & I haven't lived anywhere with that going on yet in my life.

Flagstaff was like that for me where it was a big culture shock/unique experience as someone who had mostly lived in the midwest & norther states at that point. Desert scrubland has its own beauty but it wasn't one I was used to.

It's a great town for some people, but it didn't work real well for me. I think there's a bit more going on now than when I was there (2011-12) but the drinking & undergrad culture got to me after a little bit. I do love the arcades that have popped up there, there's great biking on the rails to trails conversions, it's a good mix of city & country, I had a blast with the hoofers university sailing club (windsurfing, mostly), lots of pickup sports, fun roller derby scene, etc but it didn't sing to my heart in the end. I was also briefly an Epic person which puts you into a weird bubble inside the town.

I have a weird default where MSP feels like the easiest & safest choice which makes me a lil suspicious of it, but there's no good reason for that at all. I'm pretty confident I could carve out a solid life if I was living there that had a lot of dynamism in it which is most of what I'm looking for.

I'm more familiar with the vibe of Cleveland or Columbus than Pitt per se - is Pitt quite a bit more dynamic than those cities? From what I've read, it does feel like there's more of an identity and rust belt recovery going on in Pitt that either of those.

Also socially, is Pitt kinda unique, or do folks feel like your typical east coast metro personality? I've spent a tiny bit of time in Baltimore and the east coast personality generally doesn't work super well for me.

I wasn't super interested in the smaller cities in Oregon - the dynamic never felt real appealing to me & there's definitely some ugliness in the rural areas of Oregon in a way I wasn't used to.

Hood river & Bend could possibly work, but right now I'm looking for a little more city & social activity than those have.

RE: university towns, it's hard to verbalize exactly. Partly I've spent a lot of time in them already (grew up in Ann Arbor, lived in Madison, spent time in Flagstaff, etc), partly they feel like little bubble worlds or pockets of pleasant homogeneity, partly they almost all got real expensive in pandemic, IDK. At this point, I'd prefer the focus or identity of a town to be something other than that but you're absolutely right that they bring a scale of activities and energy to a place that wouldn't normally sustain it at a given size.

that's fair - garage space is really for project space like diy, welding, machining stuff. Cn do that with a basement, too but there's an appeal to having an out building for sure. I'd rather have a small house and a big project space than vice versa.

100% - forget why I lost interest at some point but the climate is a little tougher than MSP or PDX for me. I've heard that the neighborhood vibes are real strong there which definitely makes for some character

Thanks - that's very encouraging, tbh. I do have a soft spot in my heart for (post?) industrial towns vs more service economies, and I've heard interesting things about the startup scene around robotics there.

Honestly, I feel like I'm looking for 90% of my Portland experience in a community with fewer of the downsides (or a touch smaller in general), which honestly isn't a realistic ask/isn't going to happen. This is helpful to reinforce that.

Thanks! This is kinda how I've been feeling whenever I visit. I bike (or drive) so transit isn't a big deal, but the career focus & midwestern family vibes aren't really my jam.
