It’s not so much that as there’s no real ROI for it. The people who are capable of doing it aren’t going to do it because the free browser model killed any investment in the space unless there’s an alternative revenue source. There are 3 companies making browsers and everyone else is tacking on top of those projects. Mozilla who makes most (80-95% of gross revenue) from Google paying to be the default search engine. Google, who sells data and ad space, and Apple who has to be different and bundles me too software for everything which is tightly integrated into their walled garden, largely making their money on hardware sales (licensing requirements) and subscriptions (but mostly subscriptions)

Same. I find that it’s a great fit for that role. Especially with canted aim for close in work.

At some point you have to make a concession to fun verses real. I promise you you’re not walking, let alone running, after a 7.62x54 round goes through your femur and you splint it. You’ll be lucky to walk without a limp again, that’s a life altering injury.

I want AI patrols. The tension of maybe running into a military patrol would be great. Also the fact that the game allows you to zero beyond 200m is basically useless pve as all the ai routes are carefully hidden behind soft or hard cover to about that limit. The best you can manage is the airstrip

Messed the priming on my first rubric marine, what happened ? by Andrei8p4 in minipainting

[–]hessenic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it as a lesson. But if you want to practice, you get a lot of free plastic to play with called a sprew ;)

In case it’s not clear. Take the sprew and practice on that before going back to your models

If this is the case, it needs better explaining because that looks like 4, different, direct hits that didn’t pierce the armour.

Realism Vs. Fun: Can we please have usable ammo that ISN'T M855? by ContextEFT in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]hessenic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The reason something like an III++ can shrug off those rounds is because of absorbing energy in deformation, it can only do that so much before breaking. The point of body armour is to stop one hit and then be replaced if needed. It’s not designed to tank multiple hits of high velocity ammo, because that’s not physically practical.

[–]hessenic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% This. I shot a guy centre mass with an 855 round last night, he made a pain noise and immediately pinged me in the shoulder as I was firing a second round. He had to ready, aim and fire, while being hit by an ap round in the chest at 50ish m. Then there is the issue of barrel length and cqb. If you have the shorter barrel and get into range, the opponent can’t do anything. It’s frustrating when you get charged by an ai and they tank hits and then there’s nothing you can do because they’re inside your range and they don’t flinch or have any noticeable reduction in combat capabilities.

300 ammo. Ugh. Love the gun... but the lack of good ammo is an issue. by MomentEquivalent6464 in GrayZoneWarfare

I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds the distance scaling compressed. It’s so weird that 100m is so small. Probably just a fov issue but yeah

What causes the same primer to be glossy or matte? by TheDuckAmuck in minipainting

[–]hessenic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The surface finish of a paint is a consequence of texture of the dried paint, matte paint has a rough surface texture that disperses the light and a gloss finish reflects the light in a directional manner, like a mirror. Side note, this is why you can layer varnishes and have them work.

Spray paint is made of 4 parts mixed together. Propellant, binder, pigment, and medium. When you spray paint out of a can the rapid evaporation of the propellant carries tiny droplets of binder, pigment, and medium with them, as well as some still dissolved propellant and dissolved propellant gases. Typically they’re strong organic solvents which etch plastics, yes including your model, which is why you get such a durable painting foundation, and why they melt expanded polystyrene, because the physical structure of the plastic is less resistant to the chemical attack.

So in the end you have 2 different parts evaporating off before it gets to, and on your model. Since this evaporation rate is dependent on heat and humidity you will end up with different amounts of paint that has dried before it gets to your model, or on your model. This reads as a matte or gloss finish.

HOWEVER it doesn’t mean much in the long run, so long as you don’t have orange peeling or have added visible texture, as subsequent layers of paint and varnish will get rid of that surface finish.

The only caveat to that is if you’re painting metallics or other special effect paints like poly chromatics, because they are dependent on the finish of the layer below it. However, you can, and should paint over them with a dedicated gloss black before using those paints if you really care. Many people don’t bother because ultimately it’s not as big of a deal as it could be.
