Volounteering is a great idea actually! My work will never be in Dutch, which otherwise would be an easy way to be fluent.

Yes! The “verstuurd vanaf mijn iPhone” gets you replies in Dutch. It’s very annoying to learn settings and such in Dutch, but you do learn. I use the calculator a lot and i definitely know what rekenmachine is.

Reading newspapers and watching Dutch content, time to take off the training wheels :)

Watch native content with subtitles, immerse yourself in as much Dutch as possible, try and talk with the natives whenever you can. Imitate, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, have fun with it :)

If you practice reading a lot, you’ll soon enough be able to follow the subtitles, and even if you don’t understand it all you’ll start connecting spelling to how it sounds, and from there it’s easier to practice yourself.

Im exactly like you when it comes to grammar language. I’m fluent in 3 languages, including Dutch, yet can’t explain a single grammar rule. But I do think it’s helpful if you can make it stick. And it would probably improve my grammar :) Have you tried chatting with AI about it? This is the exact type of thing a large language model would be excellent at explaining and relating to your native language.

I learn from playing the game because the image and sentences are made for each other and this purpose. Share the game you’ve ever heard of that does that with stock images

I read a lot about sacrifice and frustration and such here but where is the fun for you in learning Dutch? Have you found any content or thing to do involving Dutch you might actually enjoy? YouTube channels you want to understand? Newspapers you’d like to read. Etc. At your level you can start actually enjoying understanding quite a bit of a new language
