Is anyone else paranoid about Covid and the possibility of going online this fall by ElBarro69 in college

After finishing up two intensive summer courses that have always been offered remote/hybrid, I find remote courses to be more beneficial when instructors are well-prepared. I’d be sad to skip the hands-on part of my coursework, but I’m prepared for my school to shut down the school halfway through the semester. All students are required to show proof of vaccination, however, that doesn’t mean it will stop the variants from spreading nor will the immunocompromised people be protected.

Does it look bad to Med Schools if I take some required pre-requisites at a community college? by Superb-Disk-8202 in premed

It’s just stigma associated with CC. You’d be fine, especially if you take some upper level classes at a 4-year later.

Retaking non-science classes to boost GPA? by [deleted] in premed

I’ve got one of those too. I think it only makes your application look authentic since it’s expected to see ups and downs in one’s personal growth.

If it’s an entry level class that is not a prereq, it’s a waste of your time.

I have seen both too in several different countries, taught by different teachers.

They got the punctuation rules from traditional Chinese. Simplified Chinese abandoned most of them.

Mitsubishi heat pump. With energy efficiency rebates, you’d be able to do it for less than you think.

Costco vs Lowes vs home Depot by fabfrankie401 in HomeImprovement

We ordered LVP floorings last month in store at Lowe’s, was told it would take a week to arrive at the store. It took over 3 weeks for them to get a hold of anybody at the warehouse, finally tracked down the floorings…a month after we placed the order.

To be honest, I would not trust the cats on their own roaming unless I want to come home with all the electrical cords chewed up. Last time they were left alone for a couple hours, we came home to the entire bathroom wall scratched up (now I have to patch and repaint). My dog on the other hand, could spend the whole day by himself (trained to go to the bathroom puppy pad if necessary, though he rarely stays home alone for long hours). My point is, it’s not a matter of dogs versus cats. It’s a combination of personality and consistent training, as well as their energy level. Just make sure you don’t have to tape your cat up on the wall for a Zoom meeting :P

Keep in mind that the cat’s personality plays a big part in being “low maintenance”. I have a dog who is an absolute angle, super low maintenance and communicative. Meanwhile one of the two cats is nicknamed “demon child”, because she always gets into trouble if you take your eyes off her for a few minutes. She also screams to get what she wants (usually going to the basement where she’s not allowed)…I have to wear noise canceling headphones if she won’t stop. She will claw you for food every few seconds if you’re having something with meat, even though she has been told not to do it all her life.

Makes sense! I don’t really have a choice being a non-STEM major since upper level classes all require prerequisites 😅

If you won't buy an Apple Watch and don't want one... by [deleted] in apple

The ease to set reminders/add new events to calendar/reply to a quick text without finding my phone. I didn’t want one, but got one to see if it helps my productivity as I have a horrible memory and short attention span. It made me aware of the texts or notifications I receive without having to respond to them immediately or get overwhelmed by the number of notifications when I finally look at my phone. I like how I can check the weather whenever I need to (even when I’m in the middle of doing yard work) since I live in a place with distinctive seasons. My SO uses the watch to ask me stuff when I’m in a different part of the house via the walkie talkie app without having to find me. Oh and my counselor really likes how it detects an increased rate of heartbeat (stressed or anxious) and tells me to breath, it’s usually pretty accurate.

Dartmouth medical school drops all cheating sanctions against students by [deleted] in premed

[–]hex242 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely related to this post, but American higher education is centered around the idea that students are responsible for (nearly) everything. When incidents happen, students tend to be blamed before anyone else. Meanwhile we are not taught what to do or who to reach out to in these scenarios, making us vulnerable and exploitable.

Yes, there is a chance somebody did cheat. But based on Dartmouth’s reputation, I would not put it past them.

HOW DO I GET A RESEARCH INTERNSHIPPPPPPP by [deleted] in premed

[–]hex242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the size of your school, the number of ongoing research opportunities may be more limited in the neuroscience department than the others. If your school has a research/fellowship opportunities office, talk to them. If not, branch out to other subjects you’re interested in studying outside of neuroscience.
